Well I have the cable internet from charter communications and I was going at 7kb for the longest times. I download a tweak it didn't really work but there was a deafault revert setting thing you could download to so I did and it goes faster now in mirc it goes like 20.0kb or 30kb I also wanna share my cable internet with another computer I got a hub not to long ago and I hooked both up to the hub and it don't work only one coupter will go online with both on the hub I heard u need a program called winroute to share cable internet or what bulit in windows sharing program it has. I have Windows ME on both computer if anyone can email me if u can help me out email me at darrel_b_562001@yahoo.com or u can aim me on aol instant messanger at darrel562001 or darrel562

answer

Try calling charter and purchasing a second IP to get the second compute ronline. the modem only gives out one. Or buy a router.

RE:answer

and watch where you're saying you want to share your connection/modem at because if you read chaters EULA, they don't allow it. in most areas that i know of anyway.

Charter SUCKS

Re: answer

charter knows if you're on a router or straight to the modem. if you dont have a software firewall and you're hooked up straight to the modem then they can see you computer.

Catchy title

I don't know what kind of modem you have but,If your modem has both an ethernet and a USB port. It may be possible to run a computer from both ports via NIC and USB interface. Otherwise a router will be needed.

One Dynamic IP two computers

I have charter cable as well. I don't know about windows me but with xp pro I was able to just use the computer that the broadband hooks to as the gateway. The home network install on xp did all the internal ip assigning so that the other (girlfriend's) computer can browse the web. I just have an extra ethernet card in the gateway and run the cable to other computer. No need for a router. In the future I will probably go wireless but for now this is cheap and effective. Ethernet card 7-10 bucks and 50ft ethernet cable 15 bucks...if I remember correctly.

hi

just thought you would like to know that services have changed... charter now offers 2 dynamic ips with the service, no need to pay for another one...

about the billing issue, call your contact center, it should be fixed

just another small note, the billing records only go back for 6 months

Re: hi

Well, I actually go in person to the Charter office every time I pay my bill and for four months they have yet to actually fix it. They say they will but next month I still get double my regular payment .

Re: hi

That issue was fixed months ago, I have a Linksys BEFRS81 router now. Only issue I have with Charter now is the horrible billing department.

ok, sorry misunderstood that one...

I stated before that the billing only goes back 6 months which it does. They can however view the history of your billing and it shows if an acct ever went past due/delinquent for a full calendar year. Other than that its only the past 6 months.

Hope that helps some what...

Billing Woes...

I've experienced more than my fair share of billing issues with Charter too...

They still owe me $47.95 from when I cancelled out of my service and that was over 5 months ago. When I call up, all they say is that it's "on the way" and that it "takes usually 6-8 weeks to send out the checks". I've come to a realization that I will never see that money again .

Re: Billing Woes...

Charter is AWFUL!!!! They got us with their dish buyback program, and were supposed to credit us $23.00 per month with the package that was required..Well, they were really quick to come here and take away my satellite dish and receiver, but do you think in the 10 months we've had cable that they ever billed us right and we got our credit?? NO!!! How many calls I've made, been assured they could rectify the problem, spoken to "someone in charge" etc etc, well these guys really know how to give you the runaround and get NOTHING done. NOBODY seems to know what to do. Now I see its not just me. Total crooks. And to top it all off, I can't seem to stay online for more than 90 minutes now without being disconnected. And once again, when I call, nobody seems to know what to do. SO pathetic. You can be sure I'm looking for better service...I did better with dial up.
