 | Anon | very interested could you let me know what they tried to "nickle and dime you for. thanks | |
| | Anon | at least i discover i am not alone... I run the utilities/finances for a college fraternity house at SUNY Binghamton. Choice One recently took over another (unnecessary to name due to its now-defunct state of operation) ISP to which I subscribed. I am responsible for a LAN connecting 25 or so users through this line. We had problems with our original ISP, but I figured that when I took over at the end of our one-year contract, we would just switch providers. Not so! said Choice One. They decided upon themselves to raise the rates without notice and bill us a pro-rate for the last half of our last month of our previous contract. When I called to question this obviously quite questionable practice, the (not so intelligent) tech representative took my phone number and told me she'd call me back when she "could get her hands on a hard copy of the contract between that other company and the account at that address." She seemed not to have ever heard of our original provider, which would be fine, as I hadn't either until the day before when I began to investigate this seemingly random bill. Keep in mind, no notice was ever given of the takeover. Anyway, her ignorance would be fine, if not for the small detail that she handled billing questions for a company that was now requesting that its new "customers" pay almost 35% more than they previously had! Further, (as if it wasn't enough that Choice One preferred ignorant employees,) when she called back she informed me that a "Tommy _______ (insert poorly pronounced and therefore unbeknownst surname)" had signed a 60 month contract with Choice One. Now, I ask, "you're sure its at the right address?" To which she responds after due pause, "I'm not getting an address on this account. I'm going to have to call you back." It is now a week later, 5 AM and I am the only one using the line, and I am getting app. 17 KB/s download. Incredibly poor service... sounds like an Ed Lowe to me. Thanks for listening to me vent. Good luck with your next provider, friends... | |

| You were a former CTSI /Epix client - who went bankrupt. CTSI and Epix were to send letters to EVERY one of their clients informing them that Choice One would be taking over services. If the client did not call Choice One to decline service, they would automatically be put on a month to month price (expensive). So, do not blame Choice One because you failed to contact us like the letter stated. And if you did not receive a letter...well then, that is your previous ISP's fault...NOT Choice one. GBPackerrs-- Maybe you should call up Epix and CTSI and tell them they are bankrupt, because obviously they dont know that. Please get your facts straight before posting such remarks. Don't believe me? Go to www.epix.net or www.ctsi.com, these companies are still in business and servicing their customers. | |

You have your people mixed up, my friend. After receiving your email calling me a liar (yes, folks, the email simply said "You are a liar"), I decided to come back here just to see if something I said was misrepresenting. Now that I see your post, I see you have me confused with someone else. I am NOT at a frat house in Binghamton, NY but a business in Springfield, MA -- about 100 yards from the AT&T building. The speed you claim is not available IS (supposedly) available at my location. We had SDSL service, NOT ADSL. Our modems and routers are in a top-shelf computer room in an excellent environment, but ChoiceOne wouldn't know this because they NEVER walked the 300 yards from their Springfield office to my office to check out the problem. The excellent technical people that installed my service have all left ChoiceOne and I was left dealing with people who just don't give a damn and didn't even give me the courtesy of response to my many calls and letters. Check your facts before you blast someone. [text was edited by author 2001-11-05 09:32:25]
