News Server!!!

I don't know what to tell you looks like you have had some really bad experiences with PacBell. I have only been with them 2 month and I can't really complain.

News Server: I hear there is a new news server around now you can check this thread for more information. From what people posted its fast and reliable. Get in on it fast while its still good.

DNS Servers: There I'll have to agree with you, but I've found a work around by using another ISP DNS servers. Works perfectly, you can try Earthlink »help.earthlink.net you should be able to find it there, I know they have good DNS servers. I word of caution though do a traceroute to each DNS server of PacBell and then again Earthlink see which one is closest to you and which you get the best response from.

Hope that will help.

It's always nice to be referred to my own post! Unfortunately that server has been down since yesterday.

I just did a traceroute to earthlink DNS and they are not reachable from here. I am aware of the trick of using outside DNS servers, in fact I have one on my list, but the problem is worse than that. All reverse DNS lookups have to go through pacbell and that's a bottleneck. Many sites require a reverse DNS before letting you in. Changing your DNS doesn't solve that.

I'm not using the PacBell DNS at the moment on my 2 machines, but my router has the PacBell DNS selected and it still works and does quite well.

Just my 2 cents.
