SWBell self install

You will enjoy your DSL with a LinkSys Router. I have the one with the Net2Phone port. That is the only thing (phone port) I am disappointed in. The router is a smooth transition for the DSL to logon and have many computers at home. Get the firewall setup like you want (hardest part). My SWBell install went smooth. I have yet to talk to tech support. Box came a few days early and I had it on that night.

SWB DNS/DHCP Servers Unstable/Underpowered

SWB hasn't solved their DNS problem. It intermittently goes away consistently on almost a daily basis.

These servers are either unstable or underpowered. Pings time-out when the DNS disappears. Otherwise, using IP for other sites, I can connect just fine.

Their DHCP servers also seem to be overwhelmed at times - takes several tries to get a dynamic IP address when I'm reconnecting.

My chief complaint is speed. When I first signed up (Dec '00), I was getting 1.3MB download benchmarks. Three months later, the speed dropped to the low 300KB range, and hasn't gotten better since.

I have all the "tweaks" in place, plus the latest firmware update on my LinkSys DSL router, so that isn't the issue.

It will get better

I have to agree with Rodger Dodger. There are a few problems still to be solved.
San Antonio has the biggest problem I do believe. Had less than 28K service this week end.
It is somewhat better this am. Do believe after several calls and email to Support they have
been attempting to fix.
I got the PPPoE soft ware first. Have W2K for my OS and was using Sygate to tie
my two puters together and that software blew its mind. Bought a Linksys Router
which allowed me to delete SWB PPPoE software as the router has its own PPPoE
and it also allowed me to eleminate the Sygate Manager.
I had no trouble with it at all and it is a great Firewall. Also I did nothing to execute the
Firewall as it was automatic. Test from DSL Reports and Sygate as well as with any
other prober has found no holes. Have fun!

Win 2K and Multiple NICs

Hey reality6..It is possible to have 2 nics in your win 2k machine. Are both of your cards Linksys and does one insist on being called an Ethernet Controller? If so, you probably have the same problem I had when I first tried to do the same thing. There are several versions of the Linksys Ethernet 10/100 card and your problem probably revolves around the drivers you are using to install the 2nd card. Let me know if you with to pursue this and I will try to help.
