I'm getting 870-899k Downstream for 44 bucks a months, but hey its only a couple "K's" faster than yours so I guess it doesn't really matter. $139 dang you can get a 5000/768 line here in my area

| Too good to be true? i've been noticing all these reviews coming in lately, all so glowing for a company that, it appears, only recently started offering dsl. am i the only one who thinks these reviews seem a little too positive? maybe i'm wrong, i know my review of AceDSL was pretty positive but these seem somehow less real than other isp reviews. any takers? | |

| Re: good too be true?... I'll play test monkey Many of the reviews have stated order-live times of one week! Um.. I'm watching my butt, saving correspondence, have a hand on speed-dial to my lawyer.. and inquiring about service.
If it's that great.. on the backdrop of utterly crapoholic NYC, they should charge more, or require devotional dances or something.. | |

Oh, perhaps I was just saved the bother. Read the later post concerning Intellispace.. | |

| Akula = AceDSL ? Both with Intellispace
(copied from a response to my thread in AceDSL forum) I though it's important to share on this thread. ----------------------- I'm having the problems with AceDSL, just found two potential providers on DSLR: Cloud9.net and Akula
Cloud9 has been in business for years while Akula is new. I have to mention that AceDSL is owned by Russians, I'm Russian myself. The word 'Akula' means SHARK in Russian. That's weird I though to myself.... Also, the prices of Akula seemed almost identical as though they copied from AceDSL: their price/IP, 50% off hosting packages, prices, speeds, I was certain they copied from AceDSL, and with Russian name of their copany did bring some ??? to my mind. Now you won't believe the following info I dug up.
--- I did a WHOIS on both companies --- »www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/who···hType=do »www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/who···hType=do
SAME IP ADDRESS IN DNS - both starting with 160.79.xxx.xxx I then did a whois on that IP address and BAM! For IP whois use: www.arin.net/whois/ And this is what I saw:
Intellispace Inc. (NET-ISPACE) 1156 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10036 US
Netname: ISPACE Netblock: 160.79.0.0 - 160.79.255.255 Maintainer: ITLS
Coordinator: Admin, IP (IA43-ARIN) ipadmin@intellispace.net 212-536-7968 (FAX) 212-536-7979
Domain System inverse mapping provided by:
NS1.INTELLISPACE.NET 160.79.6.130 NS2.INTELLISPACE.NET 160.79.5.130
Record last updated on 11-Aug-2000. Database last updated on 7-Nov-2001 03:07:45 EDT.
INTELLISPACE - that name brings tears to my eyes as they are responsible for all the dsl problems we are having... And now I see that even if AceDSL is not affiliated with Akula (which they probably are), they are still getting their bandwidth from the same source - INTELLISPACE, and both will probably encounter the same problems. Also I have to mention that the reviews on Akula at DSLR seem fabricated - from weird users and 'too short' and 'too good to be true'. All coming within 3 days, and then 0 feedbacks in next month.
On Cloud9.net they have been in business for a long time, have their own network (see whois on their IP block) and have very pos reviewed. If AceDSL does not fix the problem by end of this month, I'm probably going with Cloud9 as they have identical prices. See: »Company entry - Cloud 9 Internet | |

| so what? i'm sorry but i fail to see the 'connection' between these isps, other than that they are both small local companies competing for the same markets. which would explain the similarity in both their pricing and connection to intellispace.
it is a very good point, however, to mention the fact that Akula is using the same backbone (intellispace) since that seems to be causing so much woe for many of us acedsl users. and god yes, most of the reviews here sound awfully fake (and note how they went up almost all at the same time).
but i don't see why there's any reason to think they are connected past this fact. their offices are in different parts of town, and the whole idea of one company pretending to be two is sort of silly isn't it? what good would it do them? if Cloud9's prices are similar to Akula's, maybe they are in cahoots as well! | |
