DNS timing out

The DHCP configured DNS servers time out resulting in cached DNS failures and web sites you can never reach unless you flush your cached entries.

Anyone know if they're running a proxy server?

C:\>tracert 68.32.54.6

Tracing route to ns02.plnfld01.nj.comcast.net [68.32.54.6]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

5 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms ns02.plnfld01.nj.comcast.net [68.32.54.6]

Trace complete.

Re: DNS timing out

Is there a way that I can flush the cached entries? Wouldn't they have to do it on the DNS server (avenel01.nj.comcast.net)?

@comcast.n

They have to be using a proxy server. I run a medium size web hosting firm, and every request I make to my servers from any computer I know of that has the new Comcast goes through the same IP address. If you were to try the speed tests on this site, you also would not be able to use them because other clients connected "with the same IP". Comcast's service all around (TV, internet, advertising) is a joke.

transition hotline ???

What is the "transition hotline" phone number? I didn't get any transition kit so far.

Re: transition hotline ???

Transition Hotline: 1-888-675-1150, however should you be foolish enough to install their software, you can get it from »www.comcast.net. Don't say I didn't warn you. At the very least you will need your new account number and password (your user name stays the same). Probably the only useful thing from the kit. Their technical hotline (the people who actually know what a computer is) can be reached at 1-866-757-6306, however, I never spoke to a real human being at that number.

Good luck!

can't connect to gr.com because...

of the BS proxy servers comcast is forcing customers to use. several sites block these proxies, hence you cannot connect. try connecting to hardocp.com and hardforum.com. ALso try running a speed test on dslreports wiithout logging in. You'll see the error message. I can deal with no usenet if I had to, but proxy servers? I'm shopping for a new provider.

DAMN DNS timming out again

Well. I think I'm having the DNS issue. lately its been timming out. Found that the first dns server is croaking on them. Any I'm running a DNS proxy/server of my own now. What i ened up having to do is foward the request to my isps server and changed to use the comcast's secondard DNS server (which seems to fix the problem)... ALso for a backup. I have it point to my work's DNS server/relay.
