A True Report Of CrapCast No Speed Internet

Here is a true report of the new comcast internet service. So far today i've had it working for 5 minutes and now not a dam thing on it works. The modem wont connect to comcast, there tech support is the bigest joke in the world, Its taken 5 hours to get them to say they are going to reset my modem but its gona take another 2-6 hours to do that. What kind of morons transfer 25,000 users at a time and cant keep there crap running. I realy hate comcast and i realy hate Net-Zero but hay atleast Net-Zero works. Tomorow i will be calling verizon and getting my new DSL service so i can atleast have better support then comcast where you get the "All Circuts Are Busy Please Call Back Latter" every time you try to make a tech support call.

All in All,
Another Very Unsatisfied CrapCast Customer

Re: A True Report Of CrapCast No Speed Internet

I had comcast transitioned on midnight, jan 10. The transition downtime was about 4 minutes, and I was up and running again around 1 am. Speeds are actually a lot better than what I had before. I'm bitchy about the upstream cap, and perhaps they'll consider upping it to 384 or so. But all-in-all, they did a splendid job in my area. After several reboots, I have maintained the same dhcp ip, and so I am happy with this apparent static nature of my ip.

I don't understand how difficult it is for some users. I mean, the transition for me using a slackware linux firewall box only involved changing one statement in rc.inet1, namely "dhcp=yes". Hopefully your firewall rules are generic enough to fetch ips and the such from standard unix commands.

regarding hostnames, just get a dyndns account and badda-bing badda-boom.

GO COMCAST

@24.6.x.x

I must disagree with you. My transition went very smoothly. Before you post on here talking about the morons at Comcast why dont you check you spelling! Maybe its you because in your comments you didnt sound too intelligent yourself.

Comast Transition Smoothless

The Comcast transition has been horrible. The switch over early on 1/10 went smoothly. The new IP ranges were readily assigned along with the subnets. No sweat! This is going well. Reboot, same IP address assigned...cool! Well, 6 hours later during the next reboot the PC can't find Comcasts DHCP server. Call the cracked up Transition Team. Oh, we see you have two PC's recycle the modem and reboot the one that is working. Ut Oh! It now won't find the DHCP server either. Now both PC's are down. Sorry about that please call Tech Support. Level One tech support call #1, check this, check that, recycle modem, reboot PC, sorry don't know what is wrong transferring you to level two tech. Oops! disconnected! Call level one back go through the entire process once again. You idiots I can't connect to you DHCP server! Transferred to level two again. Hold the phone to the ear until its near bleeding. Oh, sorry you need a new modem. The Motorola modems aren't working and level three tech support is working on the issue. Well, give me a static configuration? Sorry can't do that. I can schedule a tech to come out and replace your modem or you can wait until the figure out how to fix it. Cancel my service you bunch of morons! Clearly, you did not test your users configurations before transitioning. I have spent 6 hours of time on the phone going from tech to tech only to hear the transition team should have known. BS!!!!

Re: Comast Transition Smoothless

This is for the baltimore -metro area...not Mongomery county... Just for your information....The motorola modems we are talking about are the older style Cybersurfer modems....they are non docsis compliant. And Yes they did not transition....the only thing comcast could do is take a snapshot of all the cybersurfer modems(14,000 in the baltimore market alone, could you just just imagine trying to swap out all of these modems at one time.) If anything has to be done to them at all in their database.. they will no longer work... If you ask me not bad for having to transition over 100,000 customers in one evening, and 5 months earlier then they had originally planned to do so...please stop your complaining or get another service....lol

consider actually providing service instead of coming in here and BS'ing excuses for your crappy assed, fat, unionized, monopolist cable superpower.

If you have any computer background, you should not patronize or talk about things that you do not know,
all you had to to is get a router and configure the pc to work with the service, if one works not the other on your hub, well if you think for a minute it coulb be your hub is
bad and is only passing the signal to only one pc..
Try learning about networking before you network on your own.

And I Thought I Was The Only One...

I'm also in Maryland and also had a smooth transition. I was beginning to think I was all alone.

Look, i mean it's just which number you pick, some people (most people) get assfooked by COMCAST, and some people get relatively quick and smooth transactions...that's why no one should make fun of people getting smooth transactions because the reason urs was rough was because of credit approval. But then again COMCAST sucks all in all.....eek..

COMCAST SUCKS MORE THEN MONICA !!!!

I have had Crappycast for over a year now, all was well until they switched over. My email went out for 2 days but came back on its own, now my email has been out for 7 days and I cant get any help from Osamacast. I have sent them several emails from my other account (with no reply from them and I tried online support(what a JOKE that is)I never did get connected to online support same old error messages and unable to connect crap.I hate CRAPPYCAST ! if we had some competition for them maybe we would have it better in Maryland, but they run a MONOPOLY here in this state. I tried to get MSN DSL and Verizon DSL but they are not available in my area(and I live in heavily populated suburbs). I think I`ll say screw the speed and go back to AOL, at least they had great tech suport with very little wait. I wish Osama would have targeted Comcast instead of some very useful buildings that people actually need.

Re: COMCAST SUCKS MORE THEN MONICA !!!!

Just something for you to try.... change your server name for your e-mail to mail.rdc1.md.home.com @home changed their servers to only accept a full server name instead of mail

If you don't like it....get a different service...lol

this is just my line not my opinion....just trying to inform

Well you're close actually comcast should should be COMSCRAP because that is exactly how there cheap networks run. Tech support is a waste of time. Price for slow bandwidth should be no more than 15.00 a month yet most users suffer paying the high price of 51.00 so the ceo's can layer there wallets. IF you want a real life get DSL if available in your area. NO lame small upload speeds, static ip, and no dumb COMSCRAP proxy servers. Cable is a pastime all around.

I can't wait....

I'm on @home right now, scheduled for transition beginning in 10 minutes. I'm scared. i like my internet access. they say it will be back soon. they sent us a pamphlet. it said "intermittent service interruptions for 24-48 hours". im going to assume thats 24-48 after the scheduled up-time of 2:00 pm...for a total of 62 hours of service interruptions...

Re: I can't wait....

Mine happened last night -- very interesting. I have a linux box sitting on the cable modem NATing and FWing a home network, and I feared the worst. At about 12:15 I issued a release/renew command to DHCP, and got a private address (192.168.100.11). Tried for about another half hour with similar results. Tried again at 6 AM and it worked OK, everything SEEMS ok so far, but...

When I got to work (a large local university with a HUGE (most of our business) online component, and saw an email from our tech support people regarding the fact that Comcast is blocking port 21 (telnet). Oops. Ungood. I haven't yet verified it myself, nor have I probed to see what else works/doesn't, though I've also heard they have a transparent web proxy. Double plus ungood. Any more reports would be great, as would a technical disclosure from Comcast.

don't need to reboot after transition

after the transition is complete (the 3 lights will be on but you can't surf) simply go to DOS.

Type:
IPCONFIG /release

then:

IPCONFIG /renew

Note your new IP addy (if you're running an FTP server or something), exit DOS and continue surfing. Way easy.

I've had no problem (live in PA, close to Philly).

The upload cap is another story... maybe the FCC should define "Broadband" as 100kBYTES/s upload and 500kBYTES/s download. That would be great!

Note: I emphasized BYTES/s because techsupport loves BITS/s ! Be wary when they give you an astonishing high number.. then divide that number by 8

Re: help with comcast!!!

Ok here is what must happen. Your modem is not flagged for more than 1 IP. The reps in your area Must do this.
after that shut down all your computers and your hub. Reset your modem, after the modem goes solid, power up the hub, then one computer at a time, as long as they are set up DHCP and Comcast gets the flaging done all should be well.
Do each steap in order.

Another note: Comcast has stated on there website and through customer service that multiple IP's along with multiple email addresses will not be available until sometime in February. They are switching the primary services over than they will start activating the additional services.

Also if you want to get multiple computers on without waiting for Comcast, you can purchase a Linksys router or the like. With a router you will have as many computers you want connected to the modem and hub without buying a IP address from Comcast ($5) monthly plus you will have a firewall in place to secure your computers from hackers. Linksys routers can be found for as low at $49.00 in some areas. Since you have a hub and NIC cards. All you need is the 1 port etherfast cable/dsl router.

You can go to Linksys.com for more info on there products. It saves money in the long run and it provides security and it's convienient. Well I hope that help a little.

Another thing I forgot to mention if you have Windows 98, Me or XP/2000 You can use Internet connection Sharing or other proxy software that acts like a router but you will require 2 nics in the host machine connected to your hub and the other connected to the modem (DSL/Cable)

The drawback to this is the host machine would still need firewall software to protect if from hackers the other computers would be protected because of the way the network is setup. Most proxy software and the linksys router use a feature called "NAT" or network address translation. Which turns makes it so you can share 1 public IP address assigned by your provider and your computers will have private IP addresses. The host machine will also have to remain on constantly anytime a user wants to log onto the net. In some cases the host machine will have a little more resources taken away but that is usually not a problem for a relatively recent machine.

Re: help with comcast!!!

Thank you so much for your help. i see you know more than any rep from comcast. i will purchase a router but since my dsl will be activated soon, i will try it too. i can compare both and choose the beter one.
thanks again!!!!

Comcast sucks in Michigan

Comcast sucks in Michigan. When it was @Home I had download speed of 2.9Mb upload 128Kb. Now with Comcast net 1Mb down and 100Kb up. Ping times have gone way up as well, gone from 30ms to 155ms on the same servers. Comcast sucks!!!

Re: Comcast sucks in Michigan

Forgot to add...Comcast has removed news group servers and raised price...bottom line is higher price, less service...they suck..I do no recommend them.
