@shawcable.net | Bandwidth?!?! But where is the bandwidth? i was told not to upload more than 1gig per month, at the time i was uploading 1gig a day, and downloading 2gigs. They advertised it as unlimited usage and access, they contradict everything everywhere

| Re: Bandwidth?!?! Well......they advertise unlimitted usage.....but that doesn't mean unlimitted bandwidth. Think about it, unlimitted bandwidth is impossible!!!
You can be connected 24/7 with shaw, but you cannot be uploading 24/7 because you take up too much bandwidth and that slow things down a little.

| Where is the contradiction??? You have unlimited usages. 24/7. That doesn't mean you can be hogging bandwidth 24/7. The residential service is for regular usage, not for massive filesharing or servers. I wish all the people that are complaining about bandwidth caps either just shut up, or go to a different connection. Then everyone would be happy. you can get the BUSINESS connection that you need, and the rest of use won't have to worry about you hogging the pipe!!
Shaw Rocks, and it is easily the fast ISP in Canada(according to dslreposts archives). You are getting what you pay for. If you want more, you will have to get a Business connection and pay out your nose!!

| Shaw is great all around I've had Shaw@Home (or now High-speed) in 4 different cities and it's been great in all of them. In Calgary I could download at nearly 800kbyte/sec and up at 512kbit, in Prince George, I can download at nearly 600kbyte/sec and upload is capped at 512kbit as well. In Fort McMurray I could pull about 700kbyte/sec down and had a nice 1Mbit upload cap. Since my main workstation runs linux, I was getting better speeds than when my windows machine was up and going, but even then it was quite respectable. I've never had a problem with the tech support. I even had one of the techs come by and drop off a new power adaptor for the modem when it burned out within an hour. The install guys have always been helpful and informative. | |

| Horsehocky ... If I had a dollar for every knee-jerk reactionary who cried monopoly ...
There is a reason that Shaw, Telus or any other telecommunications company was given a limited term monopoly on the usage of their lines - they ponied up the millions upon millions of dollars to put the lines in and the rest of the companies itching to jump in and make use them haven't paid a dime. The limited monopoly is there for Shaw (and Telus) to make back the money on their investment in the infrastructure before the vulture companies who were too cheap to do the hard work get to take advantage of Shaw or Telus' investment.
As for the bundling ... go to Shaw's website, register in the Customer Care section and print off a statement for yourself (not a bill, but a statement) and you will have all your services itemized for you, including that juicy bundle discount they give you for having both services with Shaw. They aren't hiding a thing ... they are giving you a discount.
Finally, find another provider that gives you more for less money with regards to your Internet:
Telus Velocity: $30.00 in bundle for 1.5 Mb/s = $20 per Mb/s Telus Super Velocity: $44.95 in bundle for 2.5 Mb/s = $17.98 per Mb/s Shaw High Speed: $30.00 in bundle for 2.5 Mb/s = $12.00 per Mb/s Shaw Extreme-I: $40.00 in bundle for 5.0 Mb/s = $8.00 per Mb/s
Yeah, that Shaw is a TERRIBLE deal.
