| peak hours, just another anti-ad? I also have rogers@home, and my speeds have been a constant 1600/380 or very close. I never heard of their promise of 3000kbit but if this is true, they arent meeting their promise. but in a different light, they do provide me with a constant speed of 1400+down, 300+ up (i am also using a router). now correct me if im wrong, but this is pretty decent. and as for this peak time thing, i have never, in 3 years had any problems with this. My connection is just as fast at 6pm or 8pm on a friday as it is at 3am on tuesday night. it might have to do with yur location, but i have nothing but good words for Rogers@home | |

| Rogers Ok...for now
I too have been happy with Rogers so far even after all those down times in the past. What I worry now is about the future of the service now that it is no longer associated with @Home. They are already instituting a "Lite" service »www.rogershelp.com/signup/ - which will operate at 128 kb upload/64 kb download . They may increase existing charges for higher speeds or restrict amount of downloaded material. Anytime there is excessive monitoring or complicated fee structures it is bad news in my opinion.

Back in 1999 a Rogers person called me up and this was their pitch ... they said that they were curently at 1000kbit and expanding to 3000kbit and said that they will go up to 10,000kbit in 5 years time.

| Hmm... Every once and awhile, I get some pretty fluky transfers, never lower then 80k a second though, the promise is 3000/500, and I can get 1600-2400/380-440 most times. Today has been a rough day though, it seems to have cleared up in the last 10 minutes though. As it stands where I am at they have a fluky router that I'm trying to get them to replace at the local hub, hopefully sooner then later.
So far, I'm quite happy I've had one period when the service went out...but only because the local hub's UPS had failed, over bell I would recommend them. But we do have a major problem in canada, and that is a strong lack of options or compitition.
In woodstock you have, bell, rogers, cogeco(50/25), and execulink(dsl 128/35). Not much compition hmm? Though, if someone wants to point out another provider here I've missed feel free to let me know...dial-up doesn't count

| Had Rogers - went to Bell Had Shaw in 1999 in Ontario.
Blinding fast 700KB constant down, almost as much up, for the first six months.
Then.... 400, 300, 100... peak times sometimes 15Kb
Complained over and over again to support. Phooey. Not any better. Had cable/hse concurrently. HSE constant 24/7. Cable was all over the place. Too many warez twerps. Reported them all. Shaw did dick about it but made lots of stink about booting anyone caught doing so. Left cable.
Enuff said. Cable rules if it is constant. Stinks like no other if not. Give me consistency anytime. -- $161 to date and climbing for renting my Alky from Bell

| Thank GOD for broadband. Just for the record, did you know that in many parts of the world it costs at least a $1000 a month to get a dedicated 128Kbps line with a reasonable amount of traffic. Things like like a 2Mbps line with 10GB of traffic would cost you over $5,000-$10,000 a month + plus setup fees. Its interesting that I have more bandwidth with my cable modem then say a University in India or Turkey, etc... I have Rogers too and although it's not as good as I had it with Shaw@Wave (1997-2000?) or Shaw@Home, I don't think my modem was capped, I remeber hitting speeds of 600KB (5Mbps) from local @Home content servers, and about 200-300(2.5Mbps) KB/S from a very fast site, nowdays and I verified this I max out at about 1.25MBps downstream and about 360Kbps upstream, which is still quite reasonable. | |

@cable.rog | Re: Thank GOD for broadband. Also SOME of you seem to confuse KB with Kb. KB = Kilo Bytes , Kb = Kilobits. There are 8 bits in a byte so 56Kb/s = 7KB/s (56/8). Therefore a 1500/380 Kbps is 187.5/47.5 KBps. See what im saying ?

@rogers.com | It's always been that way.. The service has always been "up to".
There isn't a residential ISP around who can give you exactly the speeds they advertise. That' why the "up to" clause is always there.

| Bell Sympatico Dealing with Bell or Bell Sympatico has clearly been one of the most demonic influenced experienced in my whole life. Firstly they are known liars who do not return the phone calls, secondly even their internet sites are often not accessible, plaque with errors, And they have not even for the last many years giving me a Unlimited high speed system, yesterday was the first time I got one too. Now they seem even to screw up the accounts receivable. In December I was given 5 months credit for my free six months unlimited account and next Bell falsely charges me 30 dollars per moth extra for the same 6 months for my excess band width usage on my limited account.. How unacceptable absurd. I should be given a credit for Bell not delivering me a high speed account for years, when I was unable to download fully as well not falsely now abused, and charged more. In Bell what the right hand gives the left one takes away.
I have just received a phone call at home call from tech support at Sympatico saying they had adjusted my Sympatico server (Yesteroday at 5.00 pm) Last Result: Download Speed: 5994 kbps (749.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 905 kbps (113.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
and my file download speed for these files was 631 kbs and do note this is the first time I have such high speeds in years too, the previous download speeds were between 100 to 300 kbs even last week
and my Bit torrent download speed is 220 kbs
Now if Bell Sympatico can maintain such download speeds for me next permanently it would be very much appreciated too
