| What part of Long Beach? I reside in Long Beach 90804, and my MindSpring(Covad) 1500/384 line has been rock solid for going on three years now. The only way i'd use DSL at this point is if Covad is the CLEC party. -- The DSL Advantage: static IP, higher upload speed, and being able to run my servers! | |

I guess I never thought of DSL from Covad--my experience with Verizon left a sour taste in my nouth. I shall check them out! Thanks!

I have been an @Home user since they very first began. My modem speeds have always been 3.5 to 4.5 Mbps. When Charter Pipeline took over my cable was out for almost a month. Now that it is back on line my speed is 1Mbps, pathetic. I called customer service where they told me that as soon as they reinstalled all the servers @Home took with them when they left that my speed would be back to normal. I called customer service again about my speed and the real truth came out. My speed will never be more than 1Mbps unless I pay $55 a month which would get me 1.5Mbps. Wow big change. I can get 500kbps by tweaking the registry. In my area DSL Southwestern Bell and the Dish network offer the same speed for the same price as the cable Co. So why go to the effort to change and pay installation fees. Charter Pipeline is a ripoff.

| charter yea i have charter too in long beach. I bought it over a year ago and i didn't get any email/webspace but that doesn't bother me too much... the connection is 768/128 for 50 a month...which is a horrible value but i don't really have any other choice | |

For the past 2 years we have used Verizon DSL and are very pleased. Switching to Charter 1.5Mbp/128 for $40, the price and speed have lured me away from Verizon. Never had a single problem with them and recommend their DSL if you are close to the station as I am. Do hope all the email problems with Charter have been fixed, really rely on it to communicate with home and work. Time will tell.

| Call Center What problems have you had with the Call Center Bun? Our (I believe it's the regional call center too, it's a HUGE, brand new building, the techs and installers also work out of there) local call center is in Irwindale, right next door to Covina, and I've always got through quickly and had awesome help. The few times I've been in the Irwindale office (it's only a few miles from my house) the employees have really done a great job, and gone above the call of duty. -- »www.utu.org, THE voice of transportation labor!See the BOOMING railroads of today, and tommorrow- »www.gorail.org/See HEAVY DUTY freight and passenger action @ the Galesburg, IL Rail Cam, Amtrak, BNSF, and more!»205.245.189.161:1100/ | |

| Re: Call Center They are generally never informed of any network issues and always, always, ALWAYS blame the user's system. Because I use a Mac, I *really* run into this. The techs aren't trained on Macs, so they assume the Mac is the problem. I called in once when we were having DHCP lease renewal issues (IP address would expire every two hours, ON the hour and not renew) and they didn't even know what that was and told me to reboot my modem. Then they said "it must be because you are using a Mac". Also have had issues with them leaving me on hold for over an hour and/or being rude. Its never been a pleasant experience to call--you have been lucky ILOVELA!
BTW, you dont always get someone in Irwindale--I have gotten people in Canada (they are not usually rude at least) and somewhere in the South. -- Time for another tea party!

| Glad to hear it Glad to hear your service has improved so much. I've been on Charter for over 4 years and have never had a major complaint. Mail and tech support used to be my biggest gripes although about the only gripe about support is waiting to get through the pre-recorded messages to get to a human during regular business hours. Have only called them twice anyway, and both times were weather related outages. Mail has definitely improved, but still a little ways to go. They just changed news servers and although I don't use it a whole lot, still seems about the same to me. No real complaint there either.
Good luck!! | |

| Re: Glad to hear it I dont use their email--never really have because I kept my old email account from DSL days (it has a much larger inbox and it is ALWAYS reliable). Charter's email was so bad when I started, I just never used it. -- Time for another tea party! | |
