How to Resolve most Road Runner Problems

I had problems with Road Runner when my wife and I moved to our new home. It would go up and down like a yo-yo.
Luckily I'd had Road Runner for a few years and so seasoned to the typical stuff that causes most of the problems. And those problems are line noise.
You can typically see this on the lower channels (say 2 thru 6) on your TV. If you've got patterning on any channels, especially the lower ones then you will likely (but not always) have problems with the Road Runner modem.
First, Road Runner is usually good about crediting your account when outages and problems occur. Don't be afraid to demand a credit every time the Modem goes out especially if it's for a few days. Keep a written log of all the problems and outages.
Next, get a tech to come out and check signal quality and noise levels. Be very insistent that you want the problem resolved, after all, you're paying $39 a month to put up with this crap.
If it still doesn't get resolved. Ask for a replacement Modem (assuming you haven't purchased one).
If the Modem doesn't resolve the problem, ask for the Cable to be replaced from you house to the Outside Node (that's the Cable Companies Distribution Box). They should use X15 Cable if you're outside the City.
On your web browser Address box type 192.168.100.1 and go to the Signal tab. Your Downsream Power Level should be 0dB and the Signal to Noise should be above 30dB. The Upstream Power Level should be above 30dB.
I had Time Warner out eight times before they resolved the problems but now I get downloads above 2000kbps and uploads around 350kbps night and day and rarely have gone down except during maintainence times which mostly happen in the wee hours of the morning.
Hope this helps.

Which modem do you have that allows you to view the signal settings? I have a Toshiba PCX1100U and would like to see the settings.

I have the Motorola Surfboard (standard issue for Road Runner in South East).
Did you buy yours or was it issued by your local Road Runner guys?
Have you tried typing in the IP address (192.168.100.1) to see what comes up. It might be different for your modem depending on the local configuration in your area.
Call Road Runner up and ask them. Ask to speak to a supervisor if necessary because if they issued the modem they'll know how to interegate the modem.
I hope this is a little more helpful.
Let me know how you get on.

Yes that is the standard that is given out in the north houston area. Im running a router, could that not allow me not to be able to access the modem?

When I type in 192.168.100.1 it says page can not be displayed.

What is Standard in the North Houston area, the Tosh or Motorola?
I'm guessing the Toshiba.
If that is so then you're at the mercy of those rotten Road Runner people.
Make a fuss until you get what you want. I did and it works.
Usually you will eventullay have a tech that will come out and get the job done to your satisfaction. It might take several attempts though (why do we do through this crap?).
Ask whoever comes out how to interrigate the modem Logs, Signal, etc. If they don't know tell them to find out NOW!
They know but are sometimes unwilling to give the info' out because they think you'll find out how crappy the cable in your area is and will have to do something about it.
Sorry you're having so much trouble but Road Runner can work great when set up properly.

I haven't had any problems with them yet in my area, always 2.5Mb down and 512Kbit up around the clock. I was just wondering if the setting were able to be seen with that particular modem.

My mistake. I thought you were still having problems.
Did you try and talk to someone at Road Runner or Toshiba to see if the modem could be interrigated.
You might be right though although I know in North Carolina Time Warner have to be able to get at the modems remotley in case they can't get physically at them.
Basically they have a wireless system that they can sit in there vans outside your home and check the modem from there since they already know your IP address prior to arrival.
I hope you don't have any more problems.
Have fun surfing.

Austin Texas Road Runner

I live in Austin Texas and am wondering if RoadRunner provides a good connection. My main concern is peak time speeds and if the posts of Road Runner cutting off all Peer to Peer application are true...

Thanks
