| Not the only one Tried with many providers prequal me at around 14,000 feet. They hook up our lines and we get around 200/128 (Earthlink, DTV and Covad, all same thing) should of known first time. They say they KNOW we are at 14000 feet but we are truely at around 18000 feet. We know if we fallow our loop it will spell "SUCKER!" So your not the only one. | |

| lewp length make sure to blame ameritech and not the isp. loop length is given by the lec and is a guestimate.
its sad that they cant get loop length right. its making everyone look bad.
again its not dtvs fault. they only are getting the same info all isps get.
i keep getting qualified then dis qualified.

| Because DirecTV itself was playing phone tag with me. They wouldn't bother calling back when they promised and their Tech support was horrible.
You're right, most of the problems were Ameritech's problem, however my neighbor has Ameritech DSL and has absolutly *NO* problems with it at all. His line has maybe 50 feet less than mine, if that.
I'm beginning to wonder if maybe it was just DTV's craptacular gateway. I noticed if it desynced and you had a phone off the hook, it wouldn't resync until the phone was hung up again.

| Re: Since this is Primarily a review of Ameritech..... Since I work for DTV I can actually understand your problems. BUT do you actually know how Ameritech works and the hassles I go through each day to get them up and running??? As for our gateway/modem I can honestly say that sometimes our gateway is faulty but who's isn't? I personally have gone through 2 Arescom, 3 Ciscos and one Alcatel 1000. Plus if you feel the gateway is faulty or is going bad I know that if you request one from DTV we will send a new one to you. BTW it does sound like you a had a Ground or a Short on the line. Most likely caused by a bad phone.. the only other thing I can say is that Ameritech itself is primarily BAD news for us as WE have trouble getting them to admit to a problem. | |

| Re: Since this is Primarily a review of Ameritech..... I tried to get another modem sent to me. I asked the last tech I talked to whether it could be my modem or not. He never answered, so I canceled my service. If the guy doesn't want to try it, then it's DTV's loss of a customer. There are other providers, and if the tech doesn't want to help, so be it.
If you guys would've offered to ship me another modem, preferably the X1 model, I would've tried it out. I love the satellite service, and was expecting the same from your DSL service. Unfortunatly, no one would call me back or keep me up to date or what not. Don't get me wrong, when the service worked, it was great. Even at 384/128. However, it was down 95% of the time. Even after having bridge taps removed and having it plugged into the NID. I still got errors! Of course, I did notice that the cell phone did play a part in it. I requested an X1 since I know those are better shielded, but the tech said, 'nah, you don't need another modem.' If I was offered another modem, I would've tried it out. Unfortunatly, your co-worker chose not to try it out, so oh well.
And Ameritech shouldn't be an issue for me. Ameritech has 6 DSL installers in Northwest Indiana. My neighbor is one of them. If I have a problem with Ameritech's DSL, I can talk to him to get it.

| Re: Since this is Primarily a review of Ameritech. Again a sure sign of line/wiring/or cust equipment problems, possibly a bad filter too... likely just marginal signal though.
Not sure why you would feel a provider does just ALL good or ALL bad provisioning (the comparison to your A-Tech friend)

| Re: Since this is Primarily a review of Ameritech. I'll have my line ground tested then. I'm pretty sure I had it cleaned of all ground quite a few months ago, but I'll have it checked.
Also, it's not *any* phone, it was only the cordless ones. That leads me to believe they were interferring with the Gateway due to the 900mhz frequencies they were using. I really don't think this is a line issue since even DirecTV said Ameritech had conditioned the line as much as possible.

| A Big Mistake You're right. Don't waste time with DirecTV. These guys are stupid. My connection has been down for 3 weeks and they still don't know what's wrong with it. At first they tried to blame me, then blamed PacBell. It didn't work. Now they are telling me they don't know what's wrong. My advice...don't waste your money with DirecTV DSL. | |

| Ameritech looks at line: DTV = idiots Talked to my neighbor that works for Ameritech. He said DirecTV was full of bullshit. He tested my line, I'm out approx 13,000 feet. I've never gone through bridge taps. The things DTV was detecting were terminals because their program they use to test wasn't pulling data back right.
My line more than qualifies for DSL he said, but just to be sure, he's going to bring his laptop over in a little bit and plug it into my line and do testing directly from my house. He said it should work without any issues at all.
Bye bye DTV, hello Ameritech!

| Ameriwreck waves magic wand at line: DTV = idiots Oh boy, as if that's an upgrade.... There's a reason Ameritech has the nickname AmeriWRECK. And yes, of course the phone company is going to cover their butts and point the finger at DTV.... Of course DTV does the same thing, everyone does it when it comes to DSL. It'd be nice if one company could manage to tell the truth more than two percent of the time... -- Java?! HA! Real programmers still use C and C++. -- www.fluorine.org | |

| Re: Ameriwreck waves magic wand at line: DTV = idiots I've *never* had any problems with Ameritech. When my computer line was getting 28.8k connection speeds, they went ahead and checked my lines anyways even though they only gurantee speed of 14.4. They checked it anyways. There was a bit of ground on it, and THAT SAME DAY they were out there fixing it. I don't know about you, but that seems like pretty damn good response time to me.
The only problem I've had with them is last week when they were working on a terminal and it got loose. Other than that I've had no problems with the company at all. True, I had to fight to have the "bridge taps" removed, however the bridge taps never existed for them to remove! ASI's software picked up Ameritech terminals as being bridge taps.
Ameritech is a good company. My neighbor works for them and he did find the issue which ASI didn't bother to even check. What's going to be done about it? Support Request entered into Ameritech's database, and they're going to start work on it today/tomorrow. To me, that's pretty darn good response time especially seeing how the cable's under ground that they need to repair.
I've seen my neighbor's speed and reliabilty from Ameritech. I'm willing to give them a try. I don't see how I wouldn't have more luck seeing how Ameritech works locally, not nationally like ASI and DirecTV.

| Ameriwreck tech found unconscious... "The idiots that were removing the bridge taps forgot to reconnect my circuit to a terminal. Good deal! No phones overnight. Call Ameritech. Guranteed to be up 5 PM next day. 4:35 P.M. Thursday. The Ameritech technician shows up, and obviously doesn't give a crap about the cusotmer. Show'm where the box is and tell him what the problem is. He hooks a meter up to the line and says, "Yup.. It's dead. I'll fix it later," and leaves. What the? Can we say crappy service?"
Whoa ! Can anyone say PHONE COMPANY FROM HELL ?! If a tech said that to me they'd find him knocked unconscious with his test-set by his truck. Wow! Still living up to the name Ameriwreck.
Seriously, this needs to be reported to the state regs. commission. -- Java?! HA! Real programmers still use C and C++. -- www.fluorine.org

| I'm Satisfied :) I'm kinda satisfied with my DTV dsl service, everything was wright, and fast. I"m getting speeds of 1300kbps and upload 105 (180kb/second download / 15kb/second upload). The only one terrible thing about DTV is their Customer/Tech. support, i already spend about 20 hours with them on the phone , and i have DSL for only about 5 month. | |
