Reformat??

You wanted tech support to reformat for you??? Sounds like there wasn't anything wrong on their end, so why blame tech support?

Re: Reformat??

Chances are that you didn't need to reformat at all. Rogers sometimes gets the mac address frozen and your machine can't renew ip address. Next time it happens call them and tell them to release their end.

Re: Reformat??

i reformatted because i hired 3 tech support professionals, and they couldn't figure out the problem either

Re: Reformat ,no...(ipconfig /release)

just hooked up Rogers and had a connection problem When moving from desktop to laptop.
Tech support cleared it up quickly with an ip release at their end.
The tech suggested I manually release the ip (ipconfig /release) before switching computers. A home network thru a router would fix the problem too.

I am a network administrator and let me tell you a story about Roger's. When they switched from @home to rogers.com, I had no internet connection for about 2 weeks. Not only did I never receive an apology for this, but every time I called they said the problem was with my computer and that I should reformat the drive and try to connect again. I told them the problem was with their DHCP server and that i was sending a request for an IP address, but their server would not send a reply. I was able to find out that their surver had recieved my request but was not sending a reply. It took 12 calls at ~1hr wait each (and I am not kidding)before I finally got in touch with someone who was actually skilled in computer networks and understood what I was talking about. Within 5 minutes, I was online and surfing. It was only because I've been in the industry for 10 years that I knew I was right and that the "technicians" did not even know what a DHCP server was. Their Customer service will always be at the bottom of the list as long as they continue to blame the customer first and have unskilled tech people.

rogers is no help.

$5 / month for 3x 56k speed, always on, and doesn't tie up a phone line... that IS a deal in my books!

who want's to 'dial up' to the net!?

Anyways, Rogers is NO help when it comes to MAC address and IP renewal. They will swear it's a problem with your computer or modem, but 3 times now I have experienced MAC problems with people I know and they just have to wait for the renewel. so far it's been about 5 - 7 days average.

320 > 192kbps

tech support is not too bad, if you call at night.
my problem with rogers is that they have their monopoly going... and you can only get a deal if you order a bundle.

but the biggest beef i have with them is that im still upset about the fact that they cut our bandwidth almost in half, a couple years ago. i have been with rogers since '96 in west-end toronto, and ive stuck with them through it all, simply because theyve always had more bandwidth. although ever since they tightened the noose now that they dominate the market, and have their loyal subscribers, i must admit i have some animosity towards them.

Re: 320 > 192kbps

Rogers is horrid!

I am sending this as my last Rogers transmission ever.

I have cancelled, my pager, my cell phone, my cable, & my Cable modem is being delivered to them in about 30 minutes.

Not only has my connection speeds dropped below the average speed of a dialup modem they refuse to assist in fixing it, stating that it has to be either my router or my computer (As I've tried it both ways). This is 125% BS, I have tested my router at my neighbours house it's nice & fast there, I've tested my computer at my neighbours house, again it's nice & zippy there (200k/15k). They claim there is no problem with their equipment or the lines in my house.

The reason for the other services getting cancelled, on top of the ridiculous service I have received I get constently double billed & billed for services that I no longer use, etc...

I've had it with them. This is not in any way acceptable in my books. I've had my modem replaced several times, I cancelled my cell phone january 1st & have since been billed for 2 more months even though the service doesn't exist anymore.

And people complain about Microsoft, at least you can get assistance there if you need it & their staff knows what they are talking about.

I've been in the IT Industry now for about 15 years, I'm sorry but you can't get some dickwad that's reading a script to walk ME through problems, I know what the problems are & have been. These idiots don't know jack.

Anyway, I'm not the only one affected, as of right now, all Rogers services in London Ontario at least have been officially capped lower (You know how much fighting I had to do to get this info? Geez). We know sit about about 200k/15k. Come on.

3mbit DSL Service is what I am changing to, I'll be without service for about 4 days, when I come back online, my first order of business is to create a HUGE Anti-Rogers website.

BOYCOTT ROGERS. As of this moment, I have about 30 people cancelling their Rogers service & stating that they are receiving the exact same treatment as I am. We are all going to be bringing our cable modems into the local Rogers Video store & are all making the switch to 3mbit Unlimited DSL.

I refuse to be treated this way & anyone else that is having similar problems I suggest making the change.
Let our voices be heard. I mean seriously what was wrong with the 1500k/200k I had for the last 5 years with Rogers?
200k/15k consistantly doesn't cut it.

I will put up a reponse post to this within the next week with the address of the new Anti-Rogers website.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys think.

1002/136 "You Should Learn How To Say NO!!!"

God!!

Cable High Speed Internet stinks!! With a capital SUUUCK!!!!

Go for the gold, go with ADSL!! CHEAPER than cable FASTER UPLOADS+DOWNLOADS..... DEDICATED private connection to the central server, you DO NOT SHARE your connection with others, download speeds are at their max 24/7!

Why the hell would anyone choose cable over DSL is beyond me. Pay the little extra, and you get consistant performance. DSL is the best choice for home consumers. 10X easier to set up than friggen Cable Internet! Plus it uses your own phone line! You also get more than one use out of your phone line, you can surf and talk! It's like 2 phone lines in your home for the price of one!

Cable?....... I don't think so.
ADSL?....... In a heart-beat!

Re: 1002/136 "You Should Learn How To Say NO!!!"

Cable was eaier to setup. I had both, Bell (had a cap, went over) switched to rogers, plugged the modem in the ethernet card, bang, online. No software to install. I get around 1450-1510kbps download, and 128-190 upload with rogers. They just put a new fibre optic network in my town..

Could be better - very unreliable a times

Well, I was subscribed to Hi Speed for about 4 years. When it was good, it was really good (1500/600 - rare test speeds). But, it was very inconsistent. BTW, cable is much easier to set up and configure than DSL (just switched to Bell Sympatico Hi Speed a few weeks back). But, DSL is more consistent (760/160). Rogers had problems during the hours of 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Seems like everyone was online then or there were a few huge bandwidth hogs. I will never know. And yes, Rogers tech support (where they are not empowered to fix major technical issues) are trained drones at best. What bothered me most was that when you tell them that you're disconnecting, the "technical" call center representatives (lower echelons of trhe organization) would end the call with, "thank you for choosing Rogers." Go figure! What part of my sentence did you not understand?

Over the past 2 months, service was absolutely horrific. Internet down / e-mail down / both down for hours on end. Its frustrating when your sending 1 Meg files and then it goes down 2/3 the way through the transmission. That happened so often, it was the kicker to have me change. Also, when the temperature dipped to below -10 degrees Celsius, the Internet connection would stop. And, this was consistent every year since 2000. I thought that the positive correlation coefficient here could be a clue to Rogers but they never acted on it (exception may have been this year but it was too late). I'm sure a hardware component on the street was getting frozen and causing the service to cease. I was told that the server was old in my area and that was the problem along with the older cable lines.

In any case, Rogers wonders why they have a brand name image problem? Over the next 2 weeks, Rogers cable is going and is being replaced by Star Choice Satellite and the Rogers cell phone goes to Telus. I now believe its better to spread the wealth. When something goes wrong, I won't be tied down with pricing of bundled packages, etc. They can't figure out how to keep their long-time paying clientele. But, they do have meetings (IMO - I'm guessing here) to try and figure it out: and the solution is so simple. A voluntary offer of a credit would have been good or saying yes to may request for a 2 month credit may have swayed me to stay, but then, they've lost so many subscribers (cable), that the many lost are starting to impact their bottom line. As I told them, one subscriber wont make or break them. I never stated that many will!

$5 dollars a month is awesome for 128/64 compared to $23 for dial-up

Rip off

Wow! What a rip-off. I'm paying $25.00/month for 1500/640 and I always get those speeds.
