So what's the bitch?

1800/350 from 2000/384 service? Your bldg. manager lost the cable key. The installer did a Dew. And with 1800 service what was the call to tech support for? Sounds to me like the installer got the job done...and you're getting the service TW promised...and faster than 90% of the residential xDSL that's available.

Your very low grade for TW is confusing to say the least seeing as they delivered the service as promised.

I guess some people like to complain just to hear their head rattle and would do so if they got 10/10 service for free.

Re: So what's the bitch?

Notorious Dog I totally agree with you. I know that DSL that he had couldn't of beat the speed he's getting now, and yes I've been though DSL and Cable, and so far Cable ( RR ) is kicking DSL's a**
And even though you hear a lot about RR and AOL Please don't put them as a pair. Cause AOL here Sucks, my friend can maybe push 1200/90 and with my Time Warner Cable - RoadRunner I get 2100download 400upload easy, and so does everyone else I know that has RR here.

Hmm, I just don't get it dude. Why would you like to buy a new modem if you have a good one, only because those "strange noises" that sound when you SHAKE IT?!?! Lol... You're getting 90% of your advertised speed and nice upstream considering that cap. I don't see space here for bitching neither for you giving those LOW ratings you gave to RR.

Re: So what's the bitch?

You are happy with your speed and sevice. But I am shamed your reevaltation about TWC. TWC should earn higher grade in your sevice. What is your point to lower your rating???

If you don't like RR with 1800K/384K, the go back to SBC ds hell...LOL....

AOL immediately farked up the TWC service with their atdn routing - thereby linking the two ISPs on the same backbone. This tends to add a lot of bad latency, so I would guess to venture that this reviewer hated the pings he was getting, which would slow down any connection - even if you had a 50MBps pipe both ways, it would still be crap if your pings to anywhere were always worse than dialup.

TW $old out, and is now AOL's little bandwitch @#$%^. that's what I would venture to say that is his major complaint.

Re: So what's the bitch?

He didn't mention any latency issue...only that he is getting good speeds from it. My friends in Orange County, CA with RR have NO complains about latency.

Re: So what's the bitch?

Obviously, experiences vary.

I had TWC-RR and the latency is very substantial, with unstable pings even on the first hop (we're talking 30+ms difference here ), and so on. Please note where I live: it is constantly regarded as the worst place for RR cable, as the area is constantly plagued with problems and because my folks had switched phone companies, I now have no choice for any form of xDSL, which when I had BellSouth's FastAccess, was rock-stable and very high-quality

As to what the problem with the original poster is, I am only venturing to guess that he is protesting that the quality of support and the routing reeks of AOL's oh-so-well-known "service."

Re: So what's the bitch?

Yeah but look at his ratings...get's getting good speeds...they did the install...he claims to have called tech support but doesn't mention why...

The review doesn't substantiate the below concensus rating. True...if he HAD the problems you mention...ie crap latency...then yeah...but with no mention of anything except a longer than usual install...I just don't see it. Bash TW when they deserve it...in this instance...I don't they they did. It really appears that they are delivering the service promised.

So what's the bitch? if you want to know, ask!

What you THINK and what I feel are at odds here my good friend. I was promised fast connections, low latency, good service. So far I have gotten a little bit of speed and alot of bills from TWC. And yes they are AOL. So therefore, they are evil. And they said that the connection was as stable if not more so than DSL. When I had DSL before I moved, The DSL was up more often that this cable has been. Every Wednesday morning I have to wait two hours or more to log on since the DHCP server cannot be reached.(usually between 6 am and 9 am) Then once I ping the gateway it might be 1300ms before I get a reply.

Try 1 : 65.2x.xx.1, RoundTrip Time = 1156 ms
Try 2 : 65.2x.xx.1, RoundTrip Time = 1176 ms
Try 3 : 65.2x.xx.1, RoundTrip Time = 1302 ms
I certainly hope that it is better for you in sunny CA. as it stands here I am paying alot of cash for not alot of service
And yeah its AOLTW so I have to bash. who needs a company that gets you broadband and wants to stomp out p2p so it is then pointless to have broadband in the first place.
Oh yeah the news server is slow, does not get all the messages, the e-mail server is terrible, the customer support is a joke.

Re: So what's the bitch? if you want to know, ask!

Nice try. You reported fast speeds...you mask the IP's you're pinging and AOL is NOT Roadrunner.

Before lipping off you should make your review COMPLETE instead of half-assing it like you did. Your poor communication skills bring into question your sudden claims of bad latency and inability to receive DHCP nfo.

For bitching so much and hating them so...you give them an OKAY rating in your profile while trashing them in your review grades. Sounds a little like dual personality disorder. Get your story straight BEFORE you give it.

That kind of unstable lag is beyond unacceptable, and this is on your first hop!

When I had BellSouth's DSL, my ping never varied, let alone this much. Latency was always solid from first to last hop. But then again, BellSouth don't use that farked up ATDN crap. They use UUnet

do you even KNOW what that first hop is? that's the hop from his NIC to his cablemodem (the first hop on cable networks is always the modem) that is NOT RR's problem, that's the computer owners'.

Schissh....that's just terrible

Now,Let's all understand this.
1-Modem rattles when shaken, but obviously works fine. Most of us set the damn thing down and leave it alone.
2-Modem lights flash. Well, probably only one light flashes. That thoughtfully informs you that your modem is working.
3-DSL was too expensive, so you saved money with RR.
4-Besides getting a better cost, you got half price for 3 months.
5-Besides all that, you got a faster speed.

Re: Schissh....that's just terrible

1.I only discovered the rattle when I was moving my desk.
2.I have several that flash, mainly the data but sometimes the cable light letting me know that I will not be connecting to the internet.
3.You are right on that one.
4.Correct again.
5.Sometimes. During the middle of the night or day yes,but if the rest of the people in the complex hop on it can come to a screeching halt.(Saturday mornings it would be faster to walk to the store and get a newspaper)

Since you have had DSL before, I will assume you know that tweaking should improve your speed.
Have you tweaked yet ??

What does he need to tweak...he's getting very near advertised speeds (1800/350).

Re: Schissh....that's just terrible

Well...yes, you are probably right. At least if it were DSL.

I just think of RR as 100% of advertised, since you are more likely to hit the "2000" cap in most areas. My speeds are usually more like 2100/360.

Of course he is also at 90% of the cap, which makes you even more correct.

is that first guy crazy?

First the cable guy showed up drunk and smashed into the side of my house. He was already 4 months late and the first thing he did was kick me in the genitals. He deficated inside my computer and knocked me out with a hammer, but once i recovered from the coma my cable was up and running. I get about 1 byte/hour download and upload, pretty bad compared to 28.8 dialup. I keep calling time warner but they've rigged up something to my phone that electrocutes me when i call them so ive stopped trying. Every 2 weeks two gigantic guys from timewarner come to my house, break down my door, and rape my wife. If i ask them to stop theyll beat my dog so i don't even try anymore. The police told me if i "make waves" with time warner theyll kill me. I fear them so much. I tried to cancel my service but a severed horses head was in my bed the next morning. Time warner has reposesed my car and frozen my bank account. I would go with another isp, me and the first guy who posted obviously haven't had such great experiences.

I don't know all that much about the technical functioning of a cable system. But, what does the door being taken off the box and thrown to the ground have to do with losing the cable connection when the sun goes down?

And why do you care if your dynamic IP address doesn't change everyday?

"He told me that he would have someone out to fix it as soon as posible. he checked and the first appointment available was 9-13-02 from 8am to 12Pm. I have class untill 11Am so I was unable to take that appointment. So I chose the 12Pm to 3Pm. I am still waiting for him to show up. Becuase if he does not show I won't be able to get back online until at least 10Am on the 14th."

At least 10am on the 14th? That was the next day. You mean you might have to go 20 more hours without a high speed internet connection? Oh my heaven... Are you running some bandwidth sensitive applications for our National Security? I can't believe they expect you to wait 20 whole hours!

This guy's review is hilarious.

Re: ?

Yah, I think his expectations were a little much. One day turn around on something physically wrong with the line is pretty good.

I think the want for a dynamic IP to change everyday has something to do with the script kiddies, but I can't fathom what. Maybe he should just by a firewall/router combo for 50 bucks?
