How about 1.5m/768k speed?

Did you look at a WorldCom solution? You get 1.5m/768k, yes 768k upload that is 5 times faster than Verizon. You can get this though Cyberonic, DSLi, and BritSys. I have been using Cyberonic »www.cyberonic.com for the past 5 months my actual speeds is always around 1.2m/690k, I get static IP, it is a always on connection (no need to login with PPPOE), had no down time so far, and I pays $49.99. When I was looking for ISPs I looked at Verizon, but didn't go with them for the same reasons.

Cyberonic!!! Who's that?

I never heard of this outfit but I called them, thanks to your note. The sales staff is very knowledgeable, the prices are right, and they provide a 4 port Speedstream 5861 router with the deal at no charge.

The only "gotcha" is that if you get the $39.95 service you need an 18 month contract, that costs $250 to break.

If you already have a router they will put the Speedstream into bridge mode and you can use your own router for NAT.

Needless to say, at 1.5 down and 768 up I have signed up on the spot!

Re: Cyberonic!!! Who's that?

Groan!

Cyberonic is in Worcester MA. Unfortunately, their carrier does not have equipment in Verizon's offices in Maryland.

I have left my name on file so when / if the service is available I can sign up.

Meanwhile, I will have to suffer with Comcast's "expanded molasses zone" service or switch to Verizon DSL. The DSL costs more but I can't afford to keep spending time on the phone with Comcast trying to fix their system.

Verizon 1.5M

Did you have any down time during the conversion from 768 to 1.5? I called Verizon also and was told I could get 1.5 on my line for $34.95. I will let you know when it is official (June 2).

Re: Verizon 1.5M

hey Johnny

When I ordered the upgrade on the 14th, the CSR said I'd see some downtime early in the morning on the 21st, but I was up and on the computer surfing at speeds of 1505/137 by 6 a.m. on that day. The downtime must have occurred very early in the morning because I never saw it.
Hope you see your upgrade soon as well.
