5 meg + down?????

Glad to hear that you're getting those kinds of speeds, ultimately getting good service is what it's all about.

OTOH, I'm kinda wondering how many apartments are situated directly above the node?????

Which server did you use for the speed test? I'd like to check out my eastlink connection against your MTT one for a direct comparison.

Re: 5 meg + down?????

MPowered has recently capped all their speeds at 1.5Mbits. I don't know how you could be getting speeds of 5Mbits. I switched to Eastlink and find the speeds I have with Eastlink are about 4Mbit/sec. That is way faster than the 1Mbit/sec I got with MPowered. Eastlink is also cheaper when you take into account their bundles which give you local telephone and digital cable. for $99.

Re: 5 meg + down?????

I was wondering about that myself, but you never know, maybe somebody left a filter off somewhere.

I finally got my own Eastlink connection tweaked so I'd be interested in going head to head with Mpower on the same speedtest server.....

aliant sux now

@mpoweredpc.net

from the very first witch was what 5+ years ago? all aliant connections are capped at 1.5mb down (i still only ever get 101KB on a clear blue day) no one would get those speeds/modems now.dont think they aren't watching u if in fact u are getting those speeds..btw they should be collecting those modems in the new year they just havent got to u yet ( or forgot about u)

What ever you do don't exchange your Paradyne for anything. I'm actually seeing about getting my hands on one now. I doubt I can but you never know.

I was told that when I exchanged my modem I would notice a "slightly" lower speed. From 8 megabit to 1.5 megabit is more then a "slightly" lower speed.

The only reason I got rid of my Paradyne was because it was dropping its connection between 20 to 30 times a day. Thats rather annoying when in the middle of a game or the middle of a download.

Also with this new Comtrend modem I find that when I go into a game I sometimes don't have a connection so I have to get out of the game totally and unplug the modem to reset it. Its its 24/7 then I shouldn't have to do that. For the last few days my ping in games have been well over 300 when the normal ping should be about 70 to 80.

I'll be switching to East Link cable modem, unless they have a cap for the amount you are allowed to upload and download. I usually help back up the server for the place that I work for so no upload or download cap is needed.

Paradynes are capped too. They don't cap everyone individually, they capped the entire group. At least that's what I was told.

Paradyne

For some reason it doesn't look like they got to the Paradyne Modems, I still see the Max of about 7 Mbps from some sites in the eastern US ! Once they get rid of these modems, which I hope isn't soon I'll be switching providers, none of this PPPOE garbage!
Here's a speedtest from a NY server! Is there anyone else in North America with a faster residential DSL or Cable connection? I think not....
