Re: nice speeds there

Cox sucks them here.
caps are 3000/256 but nobody here ever hits them.
speeds are around 500/80. every company has their good areas[not massively oversubbed] and bad areas.

Here in Enid, OK. Cox has greatly improved since taking it back from hsacorp.net. They were a nightmare, lucky to have speeds of 250 when they were supposed to be 512 and lots of time you could not even get on the internet. Cox has been updating here and we now have a speed of 1500 and it is consistent. If something is wrong they get you up and going in record time. They did raise the price to $39.95 from $34.95 for the service and an extra $5.00 rent on the modem making the rent for it $10.00. You have an option to buy the modem for $99.00 and only pay the $39.95 a month. I think that is what I will do because in the 3 and 1/2 years I've been on cable I have not had to replace the modem. I don't mind paying the increase because because I feel I am getting my moneys worth. When High Speed Internet had our service it was a constant headache at any price. Thumbs up to Cox.

Amazing success story

quote:
I came across BBR and did the tweaks. After that, I was hitting the cap and often exceeding it (3000/256).

I went MONTHS trouble free. Then, suddenly, I noticed a HUGE drop in speed, about 1500 down or LESS during OFF PEAK TIMES!! No sir, I would not have it. So I pinged my gateway, got INCREDIBLY high latency and decided to call cox. Called them at Midnight, spoke to a level one tech, who scheduled a truck roll for the following morning in between 10-12.

10:20am, knock knock! Cox man. He came in, ran some tests, checked my modem, etc...discovered it was a network problem, got it fixed on their end and was gone in a flash. Since then, I've been hitting the caps again.
It's obvious your area is not very congested. To get a truck roll like that in the Phoenix area is unheard of. Best you could hope for is 3-4 days.

It's nice to see that the system works SOMEWHERE.

Out of curiosity, which Cable Modem do you have, and what OS are you running.

Re: Amazing success story

I am using the Toshiba PCX 2200. I have a Mac running OS X 10.2 and a PC running Win XP Pro. Both achieve similar results.

I thought a truck roll in that speedy fashion was unusual as well, but you won't hear me complaining.

Re: Amazing success story

Can't argue with that, thanks for being honest. Unfortunately, it's the exception rather then the rule.
Please update your "star" review accordingly when it goes sour.

Remember, I've had it for over a year now. Never had a problem until that ONE, and it was fixed speedily. Here's the latest speed test, just done tonight...still movin!
