Something you don't hear often "rock solid" and Mediacom in the same sentence.

Re: Mediacom Online Rocks

Wire has NOTHING to do with our problems. Mine is BRAND new Cable. And Im 8 blocks from Mediacom. I dont know how your only paying $30 and we pay $40. Explain that? And your speeds...You had to have done something. I want the secret..spill your guts!! LOL

Wikkedfin200, I also live in Des Moines. But I will have to complain about Mediacom. A number of times I have had the upload and download speeds come to a crawl. They have been doing a lot of upgrading in the last few years. Most, but not all of the problems develop after these upgrades. The phone tech support I get is really bad. And almost every time the phone wait is over 1/2 hour (sometimes MUCH longer!) Lucky me. I have a speaker phone. But it is no fun waiting on line with a recording saying "Thanks you for holding. The next available representative will be with you shortly" HA! Then I get another message that says "Thank you for holding. A representative will be with you as soon as they are available" MUCH more truthful! But it is repeated over and over and over again, with the long long wait I mentioned above. If and when I ever get connected I find myself talking to someone who usually, but not always, is not as knowledgeable about what is going on than myself. They usually try to say that it is probably a problem with my computer, modem, etc. But it has ALWAYS been outside my home and somewhere in the line, router, etc I guess I can't blame them. They are usually not told anything about any problems that the people who monitor line problems, etc. know about. If I ever get to the next tier of support, they do their best. But they can't help either, because the problem is outside my home. Then they set up a service call. Now these guys really know what they are doing. They are Mediacom's best assets. However, if they can't fix the problem, they report it to someone else. Another truck comes out, and sometimes the time the problem is fixed, if it is a line problem in the area. If it's somewhere else, it can sometimes take days. Or more phone calls L. Hopefully they will get the phone tech support problem fixed someday. And maybe the occasional slow speed problems will be ironed out when they get all their upgrades done. I have thought about Qwest DSL. But a friend of mine, who is a computer expert, finally gave up on them, and switched to Mediacom. So I guess I'll be staying with Mediacom. Their online service is great 95% of the time. It's just the phone tech support that needs some real fixing.
