| Memory Leaks A friend of mine has DLS.net as his provider. He's been extremely pleased with the service. He had a similar situation where his connections would fall off after a course of some hours. It turned out that they were having some memory leaks and couldn't pin point why. Since then, they have upgraded some hardware and the issue has not re-surfaced. I have not gotten the service yet, because I do not want to pay the $350 installation charge. | Re: Memory Leaks If your at Lake in the hills, they have that 10 meg. thing going out there. Seems to be the best deal going for broadband. Even with a $350 install. I'm hoping they can get that to me. Cable and dsl can't compete with that. People from your area LOVE these guys. | |

| DLS Hey Moe,
As you know, I have these guys coming out for an install in another week. Just called Comcast to find out about a light up date. They say no date firm yet, but planned for Q2 of this year. Told me to call back in June. I don't know about the rest of you North Aurorans out there, but this sounds alot like the Q3 of last year that ATT kept telling us. Yes it's 350 bucks to install, and it isn't the best possible gaming experience, but unless you wanna drop a T1 in your basement, you're gonna have some bits of choppy play here and there. If Comcast is good on there word, then I dropped 350 bucks 3 months too early. I think I'll hedge my bets on Comcast taking a hell of a lot longer then 3 months to get here. I'm thinking by end of this year if we're lucky. Then that 350 bucks doesn't look so bad. Keep in mind that if there are as many gamers out in North Aurora as I think there are, Comcast is gonna suck in peak hours as well. Of course, my wife could cancel the whole shabang over the antenna!

| Re: DLS Moe and DLS,
A little more info on North Aurora broadband status. Just got off the phone with the village broadband "guy". He is Max Herwig, a village Trustee. He stated that Comcast will not be lighting North Aurora up until near the end of this year. (if it even happens that fast, I have my doubts) Comcast is telling customers Q2 of this year, but I was told that they have not applied for any permits yet. This will push AT LEAST past June. My reason for this post is two-fold. For guys like MoeDiddley and myself, it is vindication that we made the right choice with DLS because we are sick of waiting for something to come around. For DLS.net I would like to stress that now is the time to think about upgrading North Aurora to 10mb service and beat Comcast when they come to town. (I have that bad feeling that SBC won't be far behind Comcast) With the 10mb service, most of us would rather have DLS anyways. Just an idea to think about.

| Amen Brother!!! June is only three months away. I doubt they will have things up and running by then. Even though my review came up mixed I'm happy. If Comcast's 3 months is anything like ATT's 6 months it should be here in about a year and a half. HEY... cbrigante2 you better not use all my bandwidth;) | |

| I was told 2 years ago when I moved into my house in Johnsburg that I would have DSL from the get go. They even provided me with confirmation numbers and the whole shabang. Needless to say that still hasn't happened. Thanks SBC Ameritech for not turning up the fiber in my neighborhood. Last I heard they had no plans to either. Instead they tied us in on a pair gain system (and a poor one at that) into a 30+ year old phone system that limits us to 24kbps dialup--half what I got at my old house in Wheaton, which by the way now can get DSL. I argued with SBC Ameritech that I only wanted to pay for half my phone line but they didn't buy that. And Comcast (formerly AT&T) has no plans to deploy cable modems either. DLS was my only option and I've been extremely pleased since July. And gaming over it rocks, especially hosting because I usually get 300-500+ kbps uploads. It seems like every week or so for no reason the link goes down and I need to force my router to reconnect. No biggie though. | |

| Yes, it seems like we are all in agreement that if there is a better option, we would o anything not to give the SBC's and Comcast's our money. MoeDiddley and myself are on a crappy pair gain system that gets us 28.8k on dialup when we are "screaming" ! If you look at the SBC posts, they just started lighting up a bunch of cities (with cable competition) after an FCC vote that gives them the monopoly they always wanted. Again, if DLS is as good with customer service as they have been with you guys (which is better than Comcast or SBC will EVER do) we should be able to work with them to get this service to a point where we don't care who is in town. Oh and Moe, you bet I'm gonna use "our" bandwidth!!! | |

| I'm having my doubts about the positive things I have posted. I have had multiple conversations with so many people at DLS about problems with this service. Everybody has been pleasant to deal with, make no mistake about that. However, I wish I didn't know so many of them. Ever since I got service there has been one problem or another. Every time I call I get some sort of reason for the problems. I guess DLS partners with other companies to cover a larger area (or something like that). This being said it seems as if they blame all the problems on the guys they partnered with. I have heard things like provisioning problems and radius problems, among other things. It works great for a while and then it doesn't. I mostly want this service for gaming. Is $65 bucks a month a lot to play games online? Not if it works well. I have been told I would receive calls back after reporting a problem ("What's your number? I'll work on this and call you back")and they don't. Now please understand I am not demanding, I'm not impolite when I call, and I don't call every time I see a fluctuation in pings. Usually the times I call are when I want to game with friends and service is poor. I had a friend come from out of state, we were going to play Wolfenstien and watch the Cubs game. Well we only watched the cubs (and they lost) because of disconnects and horrible pings(was kind of embarrassing actually). I was told we were getting the 10meg system and got as far as an appointment scheduled, only to be told it wasn't going to happen "yet". I was surprised to actually get a call from them, then I found out that a neighbor of mine who was shot down for the 10meg upgrade told them I was scheduled for install in a week, and they should call me. I was told the 10meg thing would fix all my problems and dramatically lower my pings. Now I'm told they are waiting for their "partner" to fix their tower. My neighbors have the same problems, believe me we talk. It has been two months since install. I will post any updates. BTW I disconnected twice while typing this up. | |

| Any recent feedback on the pings? The 1.6 MB i can get sound great, but I don't want to suffer in online games. Would be interested to see any ping reports now that their networks are probably a little more congested.
I'd especially be interested in hearing from anyone who points to the Gilberts tower off Route 72.

I'm on the same service as Moe. This is straight into the NIC...no router.
