Get it's act together?

It sounds like WOW is doing a great job. You had some problems and it sounds like there are bandwidth issues in general at this time, but any company that does what they are doing in Columbus, which was Time Warner monopoly for 5+ years, is going to experience some difficulties and growing pains. The key is customer service, which it sounds like they have served you well so far. I currently have Ameritech DSL and as soon as my contract is up I'm switching to WOW.

Re: Get it's act together?

Yes, get it's act together. They were handing out UNTESTED cable modems for over a month! Things have however smoothed out a bit since the "new bandwidth" was installed. And yes, Time Warner is a monopoly, but who else offered anything CLOSE to broadband in Columbus, or the country for that matter, back in 1997?

Re: Get it's act together?

what modem do you have thats untested..i have a Scientific Atlanta and they are DOCSIS 1.0 certified and that means they are fine and "tested" , why do you need to reset the modem, what problem at that time do you have, i havent reset my modem in 3 months. Unless you have one of those Hitron modems then i would get WOW out to switch that piece of just out fast.

no more hitronics

I did have a hitronics, but now have a SA Webstar. I had to reset it last monday, but not since so far. It will just stop responding... cant ping out at all until a reset. It happens on multiple PCs.

Router

Try checking your router/firewall. I know you have to power cycle the cable modem to get things working but have you tried replacing your router yet? Two bad modems from different manufacturers giving you the same problem seems a little odd. I'd look for other causes. Especially if all the status lights on the modem are showing a status of ok.

Re: Router

Didn't have a router when this was happening. Found out this Friday that the WebStar is not the problem. They've had head-end problems both times I had to reset according to the tech that came out. The Hitronics was just junk too.

I have a little question for you.. I'm looking at switching from RR in Columbus to WOW and want to ask about the IP addresses. They say on their site they give you 3. Are they static or dynamic? If dynamic, how often do they change? With RR, they seemed to hold on for a long time. Over a year for 1, then it changed 3 times in one week. Kind of a pain when running a little personal web page. (I know.. I'm not suppose to be doing that..) I've been with RR for over 5 years now.
Thanks for any info..

Re: mikegodwin

WOW gives you 3 dynamic addresses. A static is $10.00/month extra, but is available. My address was the same for about 5 months, but has changed twice in the last month. They appear to be restructuring their subnets. The service is very reliable and stable at this point. I get my advertised 1500/300 all day. You might look into no-ip.com. You can point a domain alias to it, so you don't even know your IP has changed.
