| Re: hellodare I'm currently running 640Kbps downstream, 272Kbps upstream. With 2 servers and 8 PCs connected I still get very low latency. $24 is ISP only. Don't recall the Qwest charge as wifey pays the bills but I think its around $25. I have checked around over the years and I challenge anyone to find another ISP in the Puget Sound area that offers 5 static IPs for $24. | |

| Keith, you just need to relax a little chum.
Keith,
Your access was NOT cut off by Zhonka last night, and your message WAS listened to by our nighttime tech. But he found no need to respond to your tantrum of vile profanity, baseless accusations and name calling.
There was no system-wide outage and your DSL modem was continually logged into the system, except during reboots. Although perhaps you couldn't reach your Everquest (or other game) servers due to routing issues, full Internet connectivity was not lost.
In the wee hours of the night is when we (and our upstream providers and network peers) sometimes perform router maintenance, which can cause brief, intermittent outages. This was the type of outage which you experienced last night, and it was quickly resolved, as you yourself indicated in your message above.
I suggest that you take a serious look at your behavior in this matter, which is anything but professional and courteous, which is how we have tried to treat you as a customer. Your possibly libelous accusations in this forum were made out of frustration on your part, I'm sure, and we're genuinely sorry that you are unhappy with the service we provide. We take great effort in having a high-quality professional-grade service, although some things, such as large block IP RE-allocations do require some lead time, and can be delayed due to dealing with ARIN, (the registry oversight body that assigns and manages IP space for North American ISPs).
Since we had to wait for IP address space to become available, you were asked to be patient for a few weeks, (Your already had the standard /29 [5 Ips] allocation, and your account was not charged the higher rate during this period), but a temporary routing outage (during the standard maintenance windows of 12AM to 4AM Pacific) was mistaken by you as being "vindictiveness at cutting off my access".
In my response to your initial request last week, I told you we would be able to make the allocation but, "not before Tuesday". After your status request late last week, I e-mailed you on Monday (May 4th, 2004) with an update and word that I would be able to complete your request very quickly (and gave you an explanation - above), and I do *in-fact* have the IP assignment ready for you now; however because of your abusive treatment, and adolescent temper, we are no longer interested in doing business with you.
For the record, your so-called "Strong Complaint" was a profanity filled name-calling rant that indicates a serious need for immediate anger managment counseling.
We have cancelled your account as per your vitriolic requests, and we will not be reinstating your service due to your non-civil behavior in this matter.
I wish you good luck (you'll need it) at finding an ISP that will get you 1.5mbps DSL to your house, with a routable /28 subnet block [13 IPs], for the total cost of $68/month. (Yes Folks! That includes the Qwest DSL Circuit Fees). Anyone who IS interested in our Professional DSL services at "lower-than-cable modem" rates, please see »www.zhonka.net/services-ataglance.html for detailed package information.
Zhonka provides high-quality, high-performance DSL access for those "Power Users" who can make the most out of their DSL connection, and we support them and encourage them to make use of their connection to it's fullest extent. We provide a professional level of service at a cost that can't be found with LARGE ISPs.

| Re: Keith, you just need to relax a little chum. Mr. Stewart,
While I live no where near the Pacific North West,m I can honestly say that I am quite glad that I do NOT after reading your reply to your former customer in this response.I am appalled at your attempt to use "big" words to either intimidate or belittle your former customer as well as the rest of us reading this post. I am a network administrator, with a degree in computer networking. I am very perplexed at your techs statements that the allocation would be ready on Tuesday, yet when it was not, you have resorted to an attempt to impugn your client rather than give a simple explanation of the reasons why. If I conducted myself in my daily network management duties in the same or a similar manner to which you have done so here, I would be without clients, and therefore without any income very quickly. I hope that in the future you stop and THINK before you posts such a vile attempt at humiliation. Most of us involved with the daily postings on this website will be calling you on it at every possible turn.

| Re: Keith, you just need to relax a little chum. David, I disagree with your assesment of Mr. Stewarts post. I respect your opinion, but to be called a bad company in such a public forum, deserves a response. Mr. Stewart gave it. Outlining all the "vitriol" of the original complainant in the process. | |

| Re: Keith, you just need to relax a little chum. I think Mr. Stewart's post was appropriate and indicated that the company was responsive to Keith's request. As a customer service rep myself (nothing relating to computers)I can see the hostility and rage that Keith feels that he has a right to. It's sad but true that there are always a few assholes out there that you can not satisfy or make amends to for any situation, be it an error or a oversight. Some people wrongly think that the company they are doing business with should take whatever they dish out. With that said a good company will be responsive and take action on a customers request for service and most will bend over backwards to right a real or imagined wrong, but the fact is some people just want to spit venom and there isn't anything that will give them satisfaction, because they think they are entitled to what ever they decide you should put up with, just because they are "the customer". Thank goodness people like that are few and far between! -- You can't have everything, where would you put it? | |

| Jay your nose is growing. Acutally you did me a favor. I finally looked around and I'm now getting the 11 IPs I want for $30. A whole $10 less than your "offer". It wasn't even a big deal for them either. Imagine that.
Before you start accusing people of libel, perhaps you should reread the emails and check with the AG as to bait and switch practices and false adverstising.
As far as you asking me to wait a few weeks, that is bullshit and you and I both know it. Shall I post the complete text of our emails? When someone on Friday says it won't be until Tuesday, I, like most reasonable people expect the following Tuesday. You just went ahead and blew me off until several emails later in the week well after Tuesday. Your last email even confirmed you hadn't acted on my request.
If you can't provision the address space in a timely manner without having it already allocated to you, perhaps you shouldn't advertise it. Your shoddy service and greed had you sell out to ATG. Good luck on your second go around.
I see you never miss an opportunity to do a little advertising. Anyhow rationalize your business practices all you want. I'm happy not to be your customer, and your happy to not have me as your customer. I laughed my ass off when you sent me a refund check.

I would have to agree, though I'm in the business and have often gone beyond normal channels in favor of the customer there are limits to my patience and there certainly are subscribers that feel they can abuse whoever they feel like it and they'll just put up with it. | Hmmm. Professionalism is knowing when to respond and when not to respond to a client whom you think is being unreasonable-- and then how to respond.
Anyone who has to maintain client relationships to foster their business learns that all clients can be unfair, unreasonable and down right rude at times. That comes with the territory, but you don't have to take it. You also don't have to respond.
That said, nothing you can say will ever save a client relationship like this (even if you wanted to), but everything you say certainly can and does affect current and future client relationships.
IMHO, if you have to respond, stick to the facts and take the high road. If you think you've been injured somehow, go find a lawyer. There are plenty of other posts extolling the virtues of your service that would have made this guy's experience look like the statistical outlier he probably is.
Instead, we now know that you're willing to come down to his level. Responding to these rants is all downside for any professional business person-- nothing to win and everything to lose, including me as a potential customer which is how I found this thread in the first place.

2 edits | loss of internet as well Wednesday and Thursday I also had a brief loss of internet lasting about 1 hour, this is not zhonka's fault as the core and llnw.net routes had totally died (infact they still have some glitches that I'm trying to figure out.
The most interesting thing I noticed during the loss of connectivity is a wierd loopback during a number of traceroutes... let me post one as an example:

you can see the loop starting at 12.127.70.33..
This traceroute (sadly) is only limited to 30 hops, however another route I ran just before my laptop died (dang sasser worm) hit 70 before finally quitting... all showing this looping...
Hope this helps. Let me know if you find out anything else.
P.S. if anyone is aware of zhonka and related route maintinance timeing and announcement information I would LOVE to hear it. Thanks all...
P.P.S (the Sasser worm is another good example of why we should all run some form of hardware firewall, and that dialup is a danger to us all...

| I love zhonka, and hate whiny bitches. Zhonka has been wonderful and the only issue I've had with my dsl whatsoever is a little thing called "actiontec"
actiontec is horrible, and I highly recommend if you attempt to get any sort of dsl whatsoever anywhere, you AVOID the actiontec hardware at all costs. It's worth your money and effort to get yourself a decent piece of hardware.
I'd like to consider actiontec the "Windows ME" of dsl hardware.
Zhonka is a wonderful service, and anyone who says otherwise is probably impatient and not paying attention to what is actually going on or what has to happen to meet their sudden demands.
