Good Fight

I'm in the same situation (heck - perhapse we're in the same apartment complex). Cable is not an option and the only xDSL provider in the area is galvestonbay.net. I pay a bit more to get a dedicated IP address. Service is fairly solid, if lacking in features. One plus is no worrying about "no-server" policies.

I have some insight to the workings of the ISP. I would warn that this is second-hand information so I can't be 100% sure of its accuracy. But my source is fairly reliable and I have no reason to suspect its accuracy.

If it weren't for this ISP, both the parent and myself would be SOL for broadband. Galvestonbay may seem like the middle-man here, but they are the only reason xDSL is offered at all. Verizon sat on the equipment until Glavestonbay insisted on access. Verizon's ISP side of the house has no intention to begin offering service in this area. And, frankly, Verizon's teclo operations are probably not happy about providing service through Galvestonbay either.

Sure - I'd like a lower price. I'd like some frills like a decent NNTP server. But my main need is being met thanks to the Good Fight put on by these guys. I view my fee as money well spent.
