| Charter Suffolk, Va In short and as I have said in e-mail directly to Charter... Charter SUCKS!!! I agree with the previous poster, it is never Charter fault. The first call was within a week of having their cable service installed. It took them three days to respond and replace a cable box, which in turn died two days latter. Then it too about another week and a half to replace the original (which BTW, I found out was a refurbished box)with another box. Then the bill, it's never right and never as promised. The only darn reason I keep charter is the because the internet access is pretty much the only option in the area besides dial up or satellite in my area.

| Glad Your service has improved.. I live in the City of San Luis Obispo, and I have one simple question: How are your download speeds during the evening(espically Mondays, Tuesdays, Sundays) I'm currently @ 726Kbs, and this has been an ongoing problem since Cal Poly resumed classes in September. This happens EVERY year, and I'm considering going to DSL because of this. Charter always oversells it's area here in SLO, and I'm curious if your having the same problem in Atascadero(16 miles north of my location). Thanks! | |

| Re: Glad Your service has improved.. Appreciate your reply. A splitter shouldn't make any difference,as long as it's a good one-I use a Monster cable splitter. Charter needs to upgrade their entire infrastructure here to deliver results. No wonder we aren't getting 6Mb/512Kb speeds yet.

| Re: Glad Your service has improved.. I know when I lived in SLO I beta tested when the pipeline first came in. Speeds at least to me have always been within the 10% range of the advertised price. Now when they first introduced the 3mgs, I saw 3.2--3.4 megs down. Now the speeds here in Atascadero are pretty steady just uner 3.0 but not under by greater then 10%. Your right they should give us 6megs I love too fly fast too.:) | |

| Yeah, I am also in SLO. We had a technician from Charter here for entire day. He brought his own corporate laptop to examine speed. In the morning he clocked a speed of almost 2 MBPS, then 2 hours later he tested again... down to 700 kbps. He went outside to change something, i think he said the cable had a bad "trap". Tested again for 1.7 mbps, maybe that worked. 2 hours later he does another speed test. Well, first test gave 150kbps, second test didnt even work because of timeout, you could not even go online. He replaced the cable modem, surprise! 50 kbps. Dialup over cable anyone? He called corporate office, they say there are 100 more modem spots avaliable so it is not overloaded (or so charter corporate thinks). I went in modem config, its one of the latest modems with 35mbps theoretical limit (hell charter doesnt offer anything above 3 mbps). It said on download line quality, SNR (signal to noise ratio) was 20 dB, incredibly low, and signal strength was -8 dBi, also very low. Comcast just 400 miles north has 60 dB SNR and i had 15 dBi strength there. Even with this low signal connection is stable within charter network. Things break down big time when charter network attempts to go to the internet through their acess point. Ether they got bad fiber or something but in the morning 1.6 mpbs drops to evening's 200kbps, if lucky. Sometimes i cant even listen 192k audio stream. W0rld of W@rcraft? people normally get 200 ping, me i get 800, sometimes 1200 or 2000. In other words F*ck charter and im getting DSL. Some really good deals out there. | |

| Re: Glad Your service has improved.. Not sure what has happened in SLO in the last six or so years. I'm glad I do not have the same problems. I run a Mac and a PC and have little difference in up or download. I know I'm not pingable nor do I respond to probes, echos, etc. Here is a snap of my modem config.:) | |

| The problem is that Charter OVERSELLS it's service. I'ts Tuesday evening October 18th, and my download speed is currently at 384Kbs. I'm pretty fed up with this issue, and I'm considering going to DSL. Where I live in SLO, I'm 11,200' from the CO(on Mill St., by the way), so I should, at least, get 1500Kb/384Kb speeds from SBC/Yahoo. I'll keep you guys posted on this... And, thanks for the info-more fire for me to send a scathing e-mail to the Mayor on this. | |

| Too bad... ..that customer loyalty doesn't count for beans anymore, coastjam. You'd think that Charter would bend over backwards to keep a loyal customer such as yourself, but I guess not. ATT offers some great HSI offerings out there-I know, got ATT's HSI last October. How about $25.00 a month for 3/512 service. I'm not close enough to the CO, but if you are, you can get 6/768 for $35.00 a month. And this is a month-to-month rate, no yearly contract anymore. Now, I'm having tiling/sound issues with Charter's Digital Movie tier. Had a tech here yesterday(4/27) and stated my signal strength, ect. is within spec, but later in the evening, had the same problem. I'm chalking up to the telephone upgrade, so I'll give it a few more days. And yes, I've been a Charter customer since 1995. But if my TV issue isn't corrected in the NEAR future, I'll take my business else where. | |
