@sanbrunocable.com | Day time used to rock! I get 5Mb dl sometimes but Know what you mean man. I received my DSL package today and will get activated on Feb 24, 2005. As soon as I'm activated, I'm dumping this piece of crap.
Good luck. | |

| Re: Day time used to rock! I get 5Mb dl sometimes but San Bruno Cable is definitely the best service around. They have expert technicians who respond fast and know what they are talking about. Might be slow at times for gaming, but that is not a reason to dump such great service!
Recent merger was a bad move, but as of today, they are switching to faster service!!!! Gotta love them for that! San Bruno Cable rocks!

| Re: Day time used to rock! I get 5Mb dl sometimes I'm still having problems and trying to figure out if it's just me or if it's them. The ping times are very eratic and when they start climbing I get packet loss. I'm using a Vonage phone and it get choppy and then disconnects. And it gets bad at all times of the day.
Part of this seems like it might be my modem or connection except that the problem started at the same time as the switchover. And - I have no politics in this. I used to tell people it was worth moving to San Bruno just to get this service. I'm considering switching to something else if it doesn't clear up.

| Re: Day time used to rock! I get 5Mb dl sometimes Well it's not worth it to come to San Bruno for the cable anymore, heh. Maybe a couple years ago. Nowadays there is just too many people with not enough bandwidth to go around.
If you can get another service (SBC Yahoo, Comcast, Speakeasy) then I'd say do it.
Re: Eric Robert Smith
You got 5mbs? Damn. Best I've gotten for the last few months is 2mbs, same as it is now, heh.

| Re: What do you guys switch to? I had static IP's and the 512K outbound. The statics are gone and I've about given up hope of getting them back, the new tech support are friendly but mostly useless. Service is capped at 1.5M. Need to frequently reboot the modem - if you don't speed suffers. Never used to be this way.
I had my DSL line reinstalled, this time with DSL Extreme. If you go with them place the order yourself on the Web - two of their tele-sales people screwed up the order. But 100000% better than PacBell/SBC. The service came on before the date promised, but wasn't the advertised speed. Turns out that was SBC's (phone not cable) fault (big surprise). You have to keep pushing to get the speed you paid for, but worth it in the end. If you are lucky you can get 6Mbps for less than San Bruno Cable (I get 3Mbps). Now I have a dual WAN router and both services, I can't afford to be sabotaged like that again (I depend on the service for my business).
San Bruno residents are getting a really bad deal now. Its really not like San Bruno Cable. I hope they improve to what they used to be.

| man, you were capped at 1.5? i'm stuck at a solid hellish 1.0. loosing the statics sucked. i emailed tech support multiple times and they did finally email me back this week saying after the new equipment gets delivered and setup they will be lifting the cap. i'm keeping my fingers crossed on it happening. btw, how far are you from the phone switching station? i'm 12,500 feet according dsl reports so i'm kind of worried i couldn't get good speeds with dsl. | |

| Re: What do you guys switch to? This was the last email from Tech, i'm hoping someone with more knowledge can break down what this actually means.
As for bandwidth caps goes, I think i'm hovering under 1Mbit (maybe even >768kpbs). That's a far cry from 5.5Mbit a few years ago, and even 3Mbit d/l speeds the past summer.
I still believe San Bruno Cable and "muni" cable can survive, I just hope their change over to Parasun from what I think was Sprint, wasn't a bad decision.
We regret to inform you that we continue to experience problems with our Internet network. We recently installed a new OC-3 circuit and now have sufficient bandwidth to last us a long time. The new problem that has surfaced is the processing capacity of the legacy hardware. The Network Processing Engine that manages the Internet traffic began operating at 100% capacity, but is now unable to handle the heavy network traffic at peak usage times, causing the network to reboot. This results in customers having difficulty in connecting to the Internet or experiencing long delays during screen refreshes. We are in the process of replacing the legacy equipment with a newer model that will support the growth in demand for San Bruno Internet service. The replacement model of choice has a two-week delivery timeframe, so we have devised a temporary solution, which will be implemented this Friday, March 4th. The connectivity and latency issues should be resolved with the implementation of the temporary solution, and ultimately with the new hardware.
Please be advised that you may experience intermittent interruptions in your Internet service this Friday, as we work to implement this temporary solution. Cable Television services will not be affected during this time.
We regret the impact of these interruptions on your service. Please be assured that we are working diligently to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.
Thank you.

| Sorry for the slow reply. I'm about 10,360 ft from the phone company. I have 3 phone lines, only 2 of them qualify for DSL! Maybe it's worth asking if you could get a new line that would qualify?
The cable service is still poor and very variable. I still haven't been able to get my static IP's despite San Bruno Cable having requested them of Parasun and followed up with them. My rating of Parasun remains that they are close to useless.

Dear San Bruno Internet Customer:
We are happy to report that all of our bandwidth and hardware upgrades are now complete, and the download modem speeds are now unrestricted.
Thank you for your patience during these service upgrades. We realize they took much longer than originally anticipated, and to show our appreciation for your loyalty and support, we will be increasing our upload speeds to a minimum of 256Kbps effective immediately. In order to make use of this increased bandwidth, you may have to cycle the power on your cable modem.
Please continue to let us know how we're doing. It is feedback from our subscribers that enables us to continually improve our service and support.
Thank you, The staff at San Bruno Cable Television

| i guess we had 1.5 for a few days but they may have knocked it back down to 1.0 today:(. there has been some service outages which i assume means they are getting over loaded again. does anyone know why all the sudden they got this bad? they weren't great months ago but not near this unstable/slow. it's almost unbelievable it's taking them over a month to get one part. | |

| Re: Day time used to rock! I get 5Mb dl sometimes i e-mailed support again a couple days ago to get an update and i was given this:
Dear San Bruno Internet Customer:
As you may be aware, San Bruno Cable is upgrading its Internet network. So far, the network backbone has been upgraded to an OC-3 circuit. The Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) will be replaced with a higher capacity processor (1 GHz). The upgrade project is ongoing, and will be completed on Sunday, April 17, 2005.
Our current situation: The 200 MHz processor in the existing CMTS is unable to efficiently process the Internet traffic going through the system today, resulting in dropped packets and high latency fee. The overload on the CMTS was causing it to frequently crash, taking the whole Internet network and every user down with it. In order to prevent that from happening, the downstream bandwidth had to be capped to 1.5 Mbps. Additionally, the P2P (peer-to-peer) traffic had to be filtered into a 9 Mbps bandwidth allocation during peak usage periods. These changes had to be implemented to keep the network up and running. However, all users should be able to surf the Internet and check e-mail. Users can still download files, but the rate of transfer will be much slower than what most users are used to seeing. Download is possible, but it takes longer.
San Bruno Cable regrets that the upgrade has taken longer than anticipated. The timelines are dictated by the equipment vendor over which San Bruno has limited control. Please be assured that San Bruno Cable is working as quickly as possible to complete the upgrade. With the completion of the upgrade on April 17th, uncapped downstream bandwidth will be restored and all functionality of the CMTS will be activated.
Thank you for your support and all the valuable feedback over the last few weeks. Please continue to let us know how we are doing.
Yours truly,
Tenzin Gyaltsen Cable Director ---------------
i'm hoping that by "ongoing" they mean that the situation will get progressively better as we get closer to april 17th.
Also, the main problem is they are using a 200mhz processor? Why does it take so long to upgrade a proccessor?

| Re: Day time used to rock! I get 5Mb dl sometimes I have been having to reset my modem at least 1 to 2 times a day. It's at random times, but the service has become unreliable. I hope they upgrade to a processor that can hadle current customers as well as new customers. Let's see how this new director handles this sort of situation.

| Okay, I noticed things were going beserk on Monday. Maybe San Bruno Cable is ahead of their game because a speed test from here on the Speakeasy test showed a nice 3500kps connection, compare that to the 800kps I had last month. The one on Megapath reads 4726, if the upgrades planned on 4/17 are going to provide better/stable service. Wow...
Hopefully all the problems are over with. I wasn't a BIG deal slowing down, we'll have to wait for the verdict on this upgrade. But at least the San Bruno Cable folks are prompt to give responses if you call or email. Plus you don't have the b.s. that Comcast has on those failed DNS servers.
