| Tweaks If you haven't done so already, check out the Broadband Tweaks forum to get the maximum speed for your line. If you ever need some help with your DSL there's also the Verizon forum you can check out.

Was wondering what makes you say that for non-gaming and downloading Verizon is better? I consider myself an avid gamer and I plan on downloading big files. What kind of pings and d/l speeds am I looking at with Verizon? Thanks...

| Re: Tweaks Verizon's pings are pretty good. They are in the 20 ms range when I ping things close to me. I also ping less than 20 ms to my gateway so that should be a sign of good service. Depending on where you are located you will get the 768/128 or 1.5Mb/128 plan. If you are withing 12,000ft. you can get the faster speed plan. If not you'll get the lower one. On the lower one you can expect a max download somewhere in the 80-90KB range and 150-180KB for the faster speed. Note that this is only when the service is performing optimally.
I play games on Verizon and download files. It is more than adequate. -- "Yet even in certain defeat, the courageous Trager secretly clung to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. | Re: Tweaks yeah thats true. Verizon ping has around 20 ms, which is pretty damm good. I was playing xbox online, and my friends ping was like 20 ms constant, and he had smooth game with no lagging/slowdown. And even tough i have 9414 download speed from optimum online, i get a 50 ms to 60 ms ping when playing xbox online. Which i think is pretty strange. Oh well, I guess everything has its pros and cons.

| Re: Tweaks Sorry I haven't been back for a while, running a little behind on everything. :-O
I'm getting a constant 738/136, I'm 14k feet from the CO, so thats about as well as expected for that distance, I'm happy with it, at least until Verizon decides to upgrade in my area. I do download more then the average user, probably a LOT more. But the 738 down is kewl with me, I just start the download and hit the sack, no worries about getting capped, I've downloaded gigs of stuff and so far never been capped, or better yet, never FAPPED.
Gaming is awesome, xbox and PS2 both perform excellent along with all the pc games I've tried online. Although I'm completely happy with my current speeds, I believe in the future it will only get better.
