Flames?? Try Truth

I posted a close to "flame" review because i can honestly say i have had experience with ACD.net as a company since it's inception as a CLEC and the start of its DSL service into the market.

When ACD Started offering DSL, they were IT! They had the best service, decent prices, and you could actually call them and talk to them.

about 2 years into their offering DSL, my friend bought into a 2 year contract with them to get a free modem. At that time, i could literally get exactly what he paid for. they pings were 40-50 on game servers, which blew away my ATTBi cable, the upload was great, which helped make it worth it and the DNS resolves were quick. All in all great service.

My friend however pulled out of his 2 year contract 1 year and 3 months into it. He said that he was fed up with downtimes, and nobody there to do anything about them at late hours of the night.

I bought into ACD about 5 months after he left them, due to it was all i could get :P they do have wonderful technology that allows for VERY far reaches from the CO. Up to 30,000 ft actually.

The problem is this. when i first got them, i pinged 60's to game servers and go a consistent 716kbps down.

Now i get about 100 pings to servers and about 400kbps down.

Their network IS oversold. I can vouch that they run almost 80% utilization of their router 24/7. The friggin first hop away is almost always 45ms-70ms!!!!!!!!

I would stay away from ACD.Net, just my friendly advice. They are WAY oversold, and not willing to do anything about it. unfortunately, for a small company like this, if they are turning a profit NOT delivering what the say to their customers, why would they loose money to deliver the goods..

My contact is up. Im moving. and i will not move my ACD with me. Byebye guys. thanks for the broken promises and slow speeds.

i look FORWARD to the comcast guy coming Friday.

Re: Flames?? Try Truth

Dear joel07022002,

Well I am coming around to your view and do not want to have you upset as I did NOT say you were flaming or anything, however, I will say a calmly written evaluation will go much longer to inform others, now on to ACD:
It appears you are correct on the report you have filed, as the most they do to check complaints is to check DSLAMs and thats it. I have had one of their techs sitting right where I am now (at the computer) with multiple speed tests running, and he could NOT even come close to the "rated" speeds I am PAYING FOR! I have in the last few months been logging all speed data, as well as putting several other speed tests on this to have evidence that I am NOT getting what I am paying for --- so, in essence, I think given the DSL competition is better in the area, and this ISP is not providing what it says it can, I suspect customers are bailing, and I might be the next unless they can get these speeds to what they say they are!

The "NEW" ACD.net

I know this is an old review, but as an avid broadband lover here in Jackson I keep a closeful eye to the status of all of our providers. ACD.net as shown in this review did have some growing problems, and due to these reviews everytime when I shopped to get the best deals on service I always strayed far from them. They have this utility on their website (if you access it with IE on Windows, I'm on OS X so I have to work around to get to it) and it lets you trace route addresses from it, ping websites, or ping their backbone connections. A few months ago I did some heavy checks on this and they were always 35-40ms to their backbones which was/is terrible, but lately they've beefed up their advertising campaign so I decided to check again and their network looks beautiful (how geeky of me ) their routers aren't constantly running at full capacity, their pings to their backbones and outside sites are great, they have less hops to almost any site then I do from my SBC Yahoo! connection and their prices are great! I can't wait for ACD.net to introduce ADSL2+ in Jackson & Michigan Center. I just wanted to update this so that those who are considering them don't stray like I did.
