It's reasonable then

to assume that if you're losing your Internet services along with Vonage, that the problem lies with your connection itself. IOW, ISP problem. That would explain most everything you mentioned. Next time it happens, watch the lights on your modem. See if you lose sync.

edit; And I think they're past the "teething" stage. They've been around for awhile now.

Re: It's reasonable then

Not so fast. These Motorola's seem to mysteriously interfere with the internet connection when they are placed in front of a router or computer. I have read more than a few complaints about internet connections dropping out with the Motorola placed this way. Seems they work best behind a router. There must be some kind of bug in them that needs to be addressed. As far as I can tell most people use it behind a router so the problem is not widespread.

Re: It's reasonable then

That could be it as well.

My point was that I don't think the problem lies with Vonage. Rather, his connection in general. Be it his lack of a router, his modem, or his line. Still, he could watch the lights and see if he loses sync the next time his call is dropped or his Internet takes a dump.

Ah. His ata is Motorola. I understand now what you mean. I was thinking of a Surfboard.

Still, that doesn't account for drop in his Internet connection.

Re: It's reasonable then

I think it does. When it shits out, I can bypass it and go direct to the modem, voila! My internet is back again.
I tried the routre first, MTA box next, then PC......it dropps calls like clockwork after 10 minutes.
Then put the MTA first, router second, no dropped calls but voice quality sucks.

FYI......unitl I got this lousy piece of crap device, I lost my internet exactly 3 times in 2+ years that I've had it.
I still say its the motorola device all the way that's causing the problem

Re: It's reasonable then

Wild way of hooking it up. I thought ATA's were at the end of the chain, coming off the router. Same with the computer. Everything splits from the router. That way one device doesn't affect the other. You're saying that you have a router, and a single line from it that goes to/through everything? If that's the case, small wonder why you're having problems.

The way you have it set up reminds me of the old Christmas lights. One bulb goes out and they all go out. That's just stupid.

Hold on hoss...........I merely posted EXAMPLES of what I TRIED to do to get this broke dick shit to work. Not my problem that its BROKE DICK!
Got that?

It was an EXPERIMENT!

GOT THAT?

Here's how it goes......a picture for you......

In this order (like Vonage recommends)
Cable modem>>>>>>>>Motorola MTA device>>>>>>PC

Is it clear now?

Do you work for Vonage by the way?

Yes, it's clear. Crystal. No, I don't work for Vonage.

Have fun with your Christmas lights. Also, just take your router and throw it into a lake. In your case, it'd be just as much help there as it would be sitting on your desk.

Re: It's reasonable then

No need, friend. I have a router. Four ports, and everything connected separately. Including my ATA.

Yeah, it's crazy I know. But I'm like that..you know, following instructions and such.

That's one way to install it. However, if you connect modem->ATA->router->computer, the ATA also functions as QoS router that gives priority to the frames associated with phone calls.

With this arrangement, I've been able to continue a phone conversation over the Vonage "connection", while running a speed-test that saturates the available bandwidth.

Motorola Phone Adapter does downgrade your Speed

Bbeach is right about the motorola, it does drop your connection. I have a wireless Router with a 4 ports I use and what I did to get my speed back to 2.8 up was not to connect the Rj45 cable from my Phone adapter to my computer ethernet card. You should connect your phone adapter rj45 cable from any of the ports on your router and connect one of the Rj45 cable to your computer Ethernet card. Has Motorola Phone Adapter is not anymore connected to my computer ethernet card has each are connected separated using one of the 4 router ports. Once I did this change I have been getting back to my connection speed for a week now. When I first connected the phone adapter to my computer I did get very low connection has I use to get at least 2.5 to 2.9 because I have cable modem connection and when I plugged the motorola phone adapter to my computer my connection drop down to 1.6 to 1.8 not good. Again it's the Motorola Adapter that is downgrading your internet connection speed.

Just do what I did and you should get your speed back, it worked for me but it depends on your provider also. I use Time Warner Cable.

Read my post has it is true about motorola phone adapter interfere with your internet connection. Again I have a Router and before I plugged the motorola phone adapter to my ehternet card I lost quite of speed connection has I am using cable connection. My speed dropped from 1.5 to 1.8 and when I separated my cable from the motorola my speed is back to way it was which is 2.5 to 2.9 if you want to know how I gotten my speed back read my new post.
