What Verizon doesn't mention

I thought that Verizon DSL would be great and even purchased a router to network 2 pcs.
Ran the phone line, the filters, etc and at the point of setup(NOT BEFORE AND NOT IN ANY LITERATURE) was told that the modem must be only 14 feet from the phone jack.
Thay doesn't work for me!!
All materials are going backand I will stick to my cable.
I can hardly wait to find out how long it will take for my account to be credited properly.
Not a happy camper!!!

Re: What Verizon doesn't mention

that 14 feet from wall jack to modem is just a bad rumor. Do you really think that 14' is going to make a difference when you're 5,000 or 12,000 feet away from your CO? give me a break.

I use one 25 feet cable for one computer, and two 25' together to get the one down stairs. NO DROP IN SPEEDS, NONE when i use the short cord that came with the modem.

WEll said. The phone cord distance can be more than 14 feet. Mine is 25 feet and I get 1.5 down and 130 up.

One would have thought that the distance from the modem would not be a problem..but TECH support (two different techs)insisted that they were giving me accurate info AND the connection was not made.
I was really hoping to save some money ...I switched my cell phone carrier to verizon to just to get the reduced monthly price.
Somedays you just can't win.

My "other" ISP is provisioned thru V'zon (even have a Westell modem with Bell Atlantic logos on it). The modem is connected to the phone jack thru 25' of CAT5e cable (made it myself) and additionally, there is ~40' of house wiring between the jack and the telco entry point. I am ~9000' from the CO and get consistent 768/128 speed reports (other ISP is capped at 768/128).

I don't know what this 14' BS is but it just ain't true. It's possible that you may have a bad filter or something else is loading the line. It could be that there's a problem somewhere with the phone wiring in your house. Sorry your experience was poor with V'zon tech support.
