BellSouth is the same.

I think they use BellSouth's network.

Not so. They do use BellSouth to provision the ADSL lines (as Bell owns all the copper) but your connection goes to Butler's NOC (wherever that is in Nashville) and you're routed to the Internet through the Butler network. It is completely independent of BellSouth, other than running over their telephone circuits. Try a trace to any point online from a BellSouth connection, and then from Butler. You'll see the difference.

By network I mean copper lines, not Internet backbones.
