A re-evaluation is in order.

The below is a rant. Thats about it. I have no idea who approved it but I grudgingly caved in and signed my name to it.

---

The speeds are still there, but I can no longer justify a big $100 dollar question mark. "Why should I pay twice as much if not more than the next guy?"

I paid my bills longer than six months so I can now enjoy forking over $100 bucks more per month while other people just do the disconnect/wait out the database/reconnect.

It's a little silly as the deck is stacked to begin with; the beautiful simplicity of CHURN.

A customer who was trouble-free and paying! Imagine that!
Do you hear me now CVC?

Re: A re-evaluation is in order.

»Thumbs up to OOL for issuing retention credit.

I drove to the local office to drop off the modem. At the office (the one in Brooklyn) I spoke with a good billing representative who listened to my side of the story and issued 6 months for 29.99 for OOL if I signed up for OV.

That is the way to retain a customer.

Good job, CV Billing Rep Cathleen.
David

And to all the folks like me who were a little bitter about no breaks for existing customers, I suggest you do likewise. $20 bucks off the bill for the next 6 months is a decent break and all I was looking for.

I'm staying with OOL.

OOL has really taken a turn for the worse

Speeds are all over the place. I was once again "capped" while performing a 25kB/s upload overnight; essentially, you get three strikes, the fourth your account goes to security and they d/c you for some time, most often heard is a week.

I have no further alternatives (my home "moved" and am now in the 768/128 ADSL speed category)...

I'm not very happy as is obvious with the DUOPOLY of Cablevision and Verizon.

Look for other alternatives as this service is oversold and sinking fast.

OOL & ME - PERFECT TOGETHER!

Ok. I had an epiphany of sorts after two months of steady speeds.

OOL ROCKS!

Nuff said.

I SHOULD HAVE NEVER CANCELLED VERIZON.

I suggest that if you can't get that 150 cap released, you high tail it back to VZ.

Re: 9/22/2005

It'll be released. As I usually run both Verizon and OOL, I re-ordered ADSL service this morning.

As for the quote, let me put it in context for you, Chris: I decided I might save a few bucks because the summer is not a very active time for me on the PC. I close down shop and ADSL, which is mainly used for business gets little use. Hence you can understand wanting to save a few bucks, which evidently would be better used by the Red Cross considering developments of late.

All this business aside, I still made a very meaningful donation earlier this month. Good tidings, Dave

"All in all, I've been satisfied with OOL as long as they don't start their capping BS."

There are reports that even at 15/2 and 30/2, Capping still happens. Good luck in not getting capped.

Re: 15/2 Speeds:

AND HATE it. Beth don't waste your money, boost is a bunch of hype. My service is slower than when I had plain 15/2.

Re: 15/2 Speeds:

Oh wow.. I'm so sorry...

I'll stick to the "If it works, don't fix it" motto. I'm happy with my speeds and get 13-14 mbit from most speed servers and download sites.

The last thing I want is to sacrifice all of that.

And you're paying *MORE* for this? Excuse me, but I have to giggle

Shame on you Cablevision.

Re: 15/2 Speeds:

After swapping out my 5100 for a 5120 I'm getting slightly better speeds and much more overall consistency.

I'm fine if it stays this way.

Packet lost

Hello, I actually registered just to do the line test and check out what's going on with the massive packet loss.

I see that it is not just me having the problem with OOL in Brooklyn.

I've called and called, they did nothing to "fix" or even locate the problem. The 2 "tech"s they send out, 1st one didn't know what a packet loss is. The 2nd swear that a line that is split outside of house makes no difference in signal strength since it is in the "cable box".

Anyone have any idea to what is actually the problem in the area? It could be my line, which I am going to have them test/replace coming Tuesday. But so far as I read on, it is happening to a lot of ppl in the area.

Re line test

Yes. I've been seeing packet loss during select hours. Usually prime time, of course correlating with the usual prime time traffic-jam.

When you perform a line quality test here, expect 2-4% or higher from the West Coast test, it's always been that way (on several ISPs, it's not OOL). However the East Coast test is almost always 0% or 2% when there is no packet loss.

Is there a pattern to your packet loss as to time of day?

Are your speeds otherwise up to par?
