mta is too slow

i have hade mta dsl for nearly a year now, and the quality has gone downhill. lag spikes while playing games, unable to connect to internet 1/3 of the time (tech support cannot find a problem on my computer or modem) and it barely runs faster than the dial up did. my advice is save your money and stick to mta dial up.

Re: mta is too slow

I'm running into the same problem. I've had 7 trouble tickets open with MTA. They put a band aid on the problem for a week, then it resurfaces. They have shirked the blame by telling me that it was my router, P2P software, wrong phase of the moon, etc.

In my investigation of the dialup type latency of my DSL connection, I found out ALL MTA traffic is transported to a router located in New Jersey first! I also contacted AT&T Networks (MTA's POP) and had them look into a possible CSU/DSU router problem on either end. AT&T responded it that there was no problem, except that MTA's bandwidth is saturated and dropping packets steadily, and MTA needs to purchase additional bandwidth.

Worst ping rate has been around 700ms.. Packet loss starts to occur around 1700 to about 2230hrs during work days. I like the 512kps pipe, but I don't like the 300+ms ping rate I get, I might as well use a dialup modem, it may be be faster..

mta is not good

MTA is way behind the times, 7 days from request to install, NO PHONE CALL to notify of activation. 39.99 for 256k dsl and im getting frequently 40-90up and 30-50down on this site, my average download is 5-7kbs at from 4am-10pm. Granted our lines are not great up here at the house but still on 48k from a FREE account with gci dialup through our homeschool system IDEA, i got 7kbs downloads even.

For those that dont know, MTA is community Cooperative member owned phone company. Their rates are 100-400% what the lower 48 are. When you subscibe to MTA, you also subscibe to ACS and GCI they owns the lines to the main land. USUALLY problems are rovolving around the GCI oceanic line. However, MTA is lacking in technically upgrades while still charging 3-4 year old prices for lower bandwidth on the 'always on 256k 1 mb averages 32 seconds guarentee" all that with a demand for 12 month contract and 200 bucks for breaking it.

poor customer service, if you can get it somewhere else, GET it somewhere else.

Duh

MTA is expensive because it is monopoly

I have used MTA DSL about 7 years now. Why they cannot fix latency problems and download speed dropping on hours of 6-10pm? It is same old "Lightning fast Super fast MTA 512k " BS like they think most users are THAT STUPID thinking 768k (read 512) is superfast at year 2007? Someone please help us. My friends in Finland can choose from 8 to 32 Mbps services under $50 month.

AK is in the Internet stoneage.

I agree with the above comments completely.

Utter disgust for this company. Overpriced, slow speeds and to top it all off they added a 10gb monthly cap about a year ago...ugh.

Sadly most people here have zero to few other choices.

GCI and Clearwire, are also both horrendous from what I hear. ACS may be the way to go but they are not where I live, Wasilla.

I would avoid them if possible.
