Same experience

My experience with BroadVoice in the last 3 weeks has been the same. It looks like they can't handle the new customers and they've only been around for a few months. I was thinking of switching from VoicePulse to BroadVoice but there's no chance after this experience. I have had VoicePulse for close to a year now and besides a glitch here or there (which every provider has), it's been running solid for the entire time. I have never had to call their tech support even once. Since you are in NJ, you may want to give them (or Vonage) a try if BroadVoice isn't working out for you.

Tech Support

Sorry you had so many problems.

I know they are slow to respond. I'm been whining about caller ID and LNP for 2 months now.

That's terrible!

A friend of mine in Atlanta has been having the same problems-she gets this click in the line every few seconds and has has numerous other problems. She's going over to vonage which I have and i love it. I do also believe that having a really good isp makes a difference, but its to bad your having this kind of trouble!

I would...

..switch the VoIP service provider. There is no reason to stay with a company that is unable to address issues important to the customers.

same problems

had the same problems here in california. chose broadvoice over vonage because of features/plans/had a number in my local CO and they seemed to know what they are doing. easy to install, at first service was fine. the4 last several weeks the service has become completely unreliable and customer support unreachable. calls don't complete, or they will complete and suddenly drop with fast busy. sometimes calls to me reach a "number unreachable", sometimes it's calls going out. yesterday, calls to me rang my phone, but when i answered there was dead air. when i dialed out, the calls never seemed to complete. i was told by the person i was calling that their phone rang, but when they answered they got dead air. all these calls were to non-800, landline or mobile phones, so they were off-net. they have at most two weeks to eliminate these problems (and not have any more) or i'm dropping their service. if you are looking at broadband voice and want to get it now, i suggest you look elsewhere (at least for now).

Re: same problems

I'm having horrible problems with Broadvoice. Incoming audio has clicks and cuts out. The simultaneous ring feature doesn't work some significant percentage of the time.

I tried the usual stuff to fix it. Upgraded the router. Put the phone on the DMZ. Even took my setup to a friend's house with a different ISP. Same problems.

It does seem to work well at about midnight Pacific time, but that isn't all that useful.

I've used packet8, and that was much much better.

Same problems

Had many of the same problems. Got tired of caller ID problems and people not being able to hear me. I cancelled BV on 8/2. I too ordered VoicePulse and have been using it since 7/27. So far it's been great. Sound quality is excellent and all features I have tried actually work. I think you'll be happy with this choice. Good Luck!

Re: Same problems

Damn, I guess I am very fortunate. I've had BroadVoice for 4 months now, and I've never had any problems. Caller ID is now working(both outgoing and incoming). As for the guy who did the original review and saying that BroadVoice does not return phone calls....he's full of crap! When I called about caller ID, someone called me back within the hour and told me that it would be fixed this summer...and it was. Take a look at the majority of the reviews on here. Most people are satisfied with their service. I know I am. They couldn't get an overall rating of 80% if they sucked. Besides, any brand new company goes through growing pains. Take a look at how long it took Verizon to straighten out their DSL issues.

Re: Same problems

Broadvoice did not call me back most of the time except for one instance. Why the hell would I lie about some thing as trivial as this? Only had Voicepulse for one day and I'll be forced to get the $24.99 plan. On Broadvoice is was only $10. Although, what good is a cheap $10 phone service if it doesn't work at all? I'd rather pay some extra money, securing the fact that I'll always have a phone service working and there when I need it. Maybe I'll have that security with Voicepulse, but I'll never have that Broadvoice.

Re: Same problems

been using BV for several months now. I have not had any of the problems you speak of. I have had to call tech support and sometimes it is hard to get them. I try back later and I am able to get in. $12 for 2 numbers and unlimited in-state can't be beat. Even if there is an outage every now and then it is better than my $40 landline with very few features and no LD and is better than TimeWarner's service for $40. For $12 I can afford the extra cell minutes if there is downtime. Although in the past few months there has never been a time I have picked it up that it didn't work. I have even run the ATA behind a linux firewall with no problems. I would be curious of your packet loss and jitter and latency from your connection to BV's node.

Re: Same problems

A friend of mine had nothing but problems with Broadvox and finally as a last straw after numerous justifiable complaints this was the final straw for her-Subject: $59.95

Description:

$59.95 was charged on my bank account and has caused checks to bounce. This was not only not supposed to be charged in the first place, but the charge was supposed to be reversed. Please take care of this immediately. Your help is appreciated.

Resolution:

8/11/2004 10:18:08 PM -- admin ---

The 59.95 is a core deposit as you have two of our other devices, three total now. The fee is reversed when you return the other devices.

Additionally I see you have had MANY tickets open, we have replaced your device multiple times, and you continue to report service problems. Static and the like can only come from your end, it is not a byproduct of any problem that can happen on the digital portion of the call (our side). There are other characteristics that can happen however this is not one of them.

Additionally we do not have ongoing problems such as this with any subscriber, and therefore can only conclude that some issue exists on your end, and we have not been able to determine what that issue is.

The only thing that we can really suggest at this point is to terminate service, and have you return the adapters. We have exhausted all possible avenues in correcting the issues that you have reported, and have no open issues on our end that would indicate problems for you.-So after this she decided to switch to Callvantage which I have and love!!!

Stickside, no one is "full of crap" here. I had BroadVoice for over a month (which means I never got the refund for their 30 day trial), and the service was terrible. I too had many of those same problems. The worst of all was the "all circuits busy" error. But that was not the only problem. The poor website, non-working caller id, the promises of getting things fixed (infamous "it will be done in two weeks"), etc. really got me angry. Oh, and when I did call, many times their voice-mail would just turn on. On one occasion I left two voice mails in two days, and no one called me back, NO ONE!

Anyways, I took the hit, and canceled their service after about 6-8 weeks. For about a month I have had Vonage, and it has been working great. Caller ID works, no dropped calls, no "circuit busy" errors. Like the original poster said, there is no point in having their cheap service, if it doesn't work at all.

And their service is not at 80% anymore, its at 77%. When I ordered BroadVoice service, it was at 89%. I guess if most people really like the service, the percent approval rating would probably go up, or not. What do you think stickside?

Re: Same problems

I have had Broadvoice service and I am very satisfied. I think a lot of the complainers have complicated set-ups with alarms, routers, hubs , etc.

My only gripe about service is the cost of installation, plus the ata has to be returned if you cancel, or you are billed another $50. Oh well.

Broadvoice is not a monopoly, there are about 30 other competitors. I am tired of all the whining from these people. If you don't like the service cancel, and give your $11.50 a month to someone else!

Re: Same problems

For new readers: I suggest a BYOD, specifically the SPA-2100 if you don't have a router. Also, if you get it, you have two lines to play with.

I have had problems with Broadvoice, but after reading the forum on Voxilla, I usually fix it yourself.

True, Customer Service is an oxymoron (as opposed to a normal moron) at Broadvoice.

True, sometimes Voice Mail goes down.

But all in all, $23/month to call 20 countries is a great deal!

Of course, if you don't work at home like me, you will find it difficult to experiment, read up and learn!

What do I think? Hmmmmm....I think you didn't give broadvoice enough of a chance. They now have a gold medal rating. Apparently they don't suck like you think.

switched to voicepulse

My final resolution was to switch to Voicepulse. It is much more reliable that Broadvoice. No clicks on audio. Simultaneous ring works.

I can say something good about Broadvoice - I returned my Broadvoice equipment, and they refunded my money promptly.

Funny thing. The audio problems with Broadvoice also occurred if I forwarded my Broadvoice number to a landline.

I like the phone service. Cust. Svc. is BAD

I had a minor problem (silent SIP password change) turn into a 4-day outage because:

1) They changed my SIP password without telling me

2) Their customer support is almost IMPOSSIBLE to reach, and after 3 days, the first (enthusiastic and helpful) person gave me incorrect information (random incorrect password)! Another (enthusiastic and helpful) escalation person [on the fourth outage day] got me the correct password in moments.

3) Their website, while massively improved, is still not up to modern standards. Why can't I access my account SIP settings without reaching inaccessible, possibly misinformed customer service people? Would have happier customers, and lowered demand for human Cust. Svc.

That rant finished, I think the actual phone service is pretty good. Was close to passing the 'wife test', but the 4-day outage has delayed that by months, if not permanently.

Would love it if they started supporting IAX2 (not holding my breath on this one).

Unfortunately

You get what you pay for. If you buy YUGO priced and quality service, that's what you get. $12 an month! Geesh, you probably spend more on pizza and soda.

No Broadvoice problems here.

This is astonishing to me. I reluctantly switched to Broadvoice two months ago, when I simply gave up on my extended (six month) VoicePulse trial. I signed up for the $9.95/month BYOD plan, and although I own a Sipura SPA-2000 I opted for the "Generic Device" option, and within moments I was emailed the necessary information to configure the SPA. It worked immediately, but in the first few days I had some issues with choppy audio. Upon switching to the proxy server with the lowest ping rates, the choppiness vanished and the service has been rock solid ever since. Voice quality is excellent, easily as good as POTS, and with no noticeable latency. Since I have full access to the device, I can fine tune parameters to suit my needs, something no other provider offers.

Even while many others are complaining about how unreliable their Broadvoice lines are, mine continues to offer perfect service. I've yet to have a single dropped call, or any other problem...nobody has any clue they are talking to me on anything other than a regular telephone line. Yes, the website is a little awkward. Yes, a few advertised features are absent. But for about $12.00 a month (which includes fees and a handful of long-distance calls) I'm thrilled with the service and features. The features I do use (forwarding, voicemail, DND, simul-ring, caller ID) all work flawlessly.

Best of all, I've never had to run PingPlotter to troubleshoot problems, something I had to do almost constantly with VoicePulse!

The one time I needed customer service (the initial choppy audio issue) they responded very quickly by email with the proxy server suggestion. Not having needed customer service since, I can't really comment on the current quality.

Re: No Broadvoice problems here.

After having them for about 8 months or so, I finally dumped them. My service with them early on was great, but I'd have to say the last 3 or 4 months has sucked. I cancelled with them yesterday. I'm back with Verizon for 26.42/month plus 29.95 for DSL. This is my third go around with DSL. I left it before for cable which was a big mistake.....too much lag during peak hours. Now I'm back where I started and couldn't be happier.

Nightmare, same problems

At first, I had no problems, I have not been able to get a call out since the 8th of this month. I have tried all the procedures they supplied me with the last time I had a problem, they had even stated on that occasion that my Sipura might be defective. I have sent them countless emails alerting them to the problems and not once have they responded. I can't call them if my phone doesn't work and if I reset it, it will dial out, but immediately shut down. I too, am ready to look elsewhere since they have not indicated if they received my emails, or any other guidance for me, I have even set up the device on a new computer and still the same problems--no service!
