Here is what happenned.

You have Dsl.net service which is provided through Covad. You requested a speed upgrade through Covad probably to 768 or 1 megabit.

Dsl.net then logged into Covad's website and submitted a change order to raise the speed. However the dsl.net people forgot to telnet into the sdsl router at your location and change the speed in there. They don't need to send you new equipment they could fix this in 5 minutes if someone from your site had a computer that they could hook directly up to your router.

The dsl.net techs if they knew anything could walk your people onsite through the menu's / commands in the router to change the speed setting to match what Covad has set on their dslam in the CO.

Dsl.net is a lame company. I had their service for 3 days in 1998 and they told me their latency would be excellent knowing the whole time that my first hop was in chicago. I lived in Modesto California at the time and I only wanted it to play video games. Needless to say my lowest ping time was 80 ms. SO I called them and cancelled cause they had a 30 day free trial.

2 years later I start getting calls from their collection agency. Of course I never paid them. But to this day they remain a lame company. If you had the same internet connection Through MegaPath / Covad they would have logged into your router ahead of time and made sure that they set the speed of your router to auto negotiate.
