| Thanks! Thanks for giving us a factual, unemotional account of your experiences with Lingo. It's a shame that this experience has soured you on VOIP in general. I have had Packet8 for a year now. In the first six months they stumbled too and I came very close to leaving them. But in the last six months the service has been very stable.
I suggest you give VOIP another chance. But next time, go with a provider that has made it through the startup phase. -- Welcome to the 21st century. You'll do fine here. Just don't expect anything to work quite the way it is supposed to... | |

| Re: Thanks! I wonder if it is a problem with the cable connection as I live in colorado as well and I am using cable from comcast with 3meg down and 256k up. I have the same problem, sometimes my voice cuts out to the other caller but I can hear them great. I don't think this is going to work until more speed is given to the upload piece. | |

| Re: Thanks! You may have a problem with noise on the upstream side. This noise causes many problems for voip it does not show up in ping times although it may show up a slightly slower download speeds. Get Dan Elwell's Broadband speedtest (free)and check for packet loss »www.broadbandspeedtest.net/ The packet loss is probably caused by interference on the cable line form improperly installed (game adapters, outside antennas hooked into cable lines, defective or degraded cable and/or connectors etc) It does not have to be at your location but all incoming interference ADD together and the Sum is sent on all upstream traffic for the headend of your cable service. This may be thousands of customers and miles away. jp | |

| Cable vs X I am an ISP and I am testing Lingo- thru our cable, it does have some problems as stated above - thru DSL it is much cleaner. When connected to a T1 or better, the service is great. Also, if you have a static IP address, the reset problem seems to go away. DHCP seems to cause problems with the resetting. | |
