Rogers...oh boy.

Just hope your in a good area with no heavy downloaders. My first high speed experience was with Bell...at the time, they were offering 30 faster then dial-up (28.8 modem) and I did get the speeds advertised, not any slower, not any faster. Then I moved to a different part of Kitchener, with a new number. All my neighbour could get DSL but not me, so I did Rogers for 2 years. Not once during that time did I come withing 50% of the advertised speed, and I was lucky when I got over 20% of advertised speed...not to mention about 50 outages during that time. Finally, Bell updated their database and I could get DSL. During this time, I've always, and I mean always, got their advertised speed, with no outages. Well, the only complaint I have with them is when the 'claimed' to have doubled the speed of their service. Everyone knows they didn't. People went from 1500 to 2500, (a 3008 sync). However, their previous sync was actually 1700, not 1500. That's my only beef with them.

Anyway, good luck with Rogers. If I could get good speeds in the neighbourhood, I'd probably still be with them, if not for the weekly outages.

Re: Rogers...oh boy.

So far so good ...

After a brief teething phase (linksys router needed new firmware to play nicely with my Toshiba 2600 modem) I am happy to report that I am testing at good speeds. (4600/750)

I had terrible speed drop-off yesterday afternoon, but I suspect it was the firmware, for all was good at 1am when I finally resurrected my router's stalled firmware update. (oops!)

Should I be concerned that I received a Toshiba 2600 instead of the Motorola 5100 that I was promised?

Re: Rogers...oh boy.

Only if you stop getting the speeds and it is modem related. I always had a motorola....burned out a couple times, no idea why. Tech said it was lightning...during a cloudless night. Who knew?

I'd actually get Rogers if they had good speeds in the area (because, technically, it IS faster..technically) and if they offer the same discount that Bell gives me. ($24.99/month + $10 modem rental). But, like I say, my speeds are 2435 on my wireless connection...never changes. Well, sometimes it will be 2432 and somtetimes 2437 or so, but usually 2435.
