what-you-again

Get a life, I'm sure that everyone is trying, its a new technology. If your truely unhappy disconnect. DSL is not for everyone, its not for those who are not aware of whats involved in the delivery process and willing to put up with the idiocincricies during its infancy. If your so unhappy then why do you keep coming back? Pull the plug or shut up!!! Mine works well, and yes I do experience some outages, but after I read up on dsl a little I am amazed at what they are doing. Its going to get really good and I want to be in on the ground floor.

Re: what-you-again

Hey nitwit,
to begin with this was my first post. Secondly I wonder how happy you'd be if your speed was reduced from 600000 to 180000 down. This board was put here for people to review their experiences not for big mouthed little twerps like you to tell others to shut up because their service isn't as wonderful as yours. You can't even post your email address you chicken...t.

Oh by the way BS network has yet to contact me so I'll give them until tomorrow and call again. Bellsouth still sucks.

Its simple

I live in the miami area and am on bellsouth. For the couples of months that i have had the service i have learned a lot about it. Ive had my problems but nothing big.
1. Problem: The reason why you cant get sync is because you have to much interferance in your house
Answer: When the man comes tell him to run a home run which is when they run a line straight from your box to a jack in your room. This line jack will only be used for dsl and no voice will be able to go thru unless u have a special filter.

About your phone not working im almost sure it had nothing to do with dsl so i dont think you should blame that.

And mainly about speeds, may i remind you u are on a USB modem, not a good idea. I was on a usb and it used to give me and my friends problem and never got the speeds we wanted so we got the ethernet option and are running on a nic card which is connected to an alcatel speed touch hom modem. HUGE difference in reliability as well as speed. i run at about 1.100 mbps which comes out to be about 140 to 145 ks of course this is depending where im d/l from which might also be something you overlooked. Upstream i get abou 187 mbps which comes out to be like 25 ks. So this some info i hope u can use to your advantage and this nothing people should be arguing about.

Re: Its simple

1. I don't have a sync problem.
2. A homerun isn't necessary since I'm getting the same speed at the outside box and at the pc.
3. When the line went dead all service voice and dsl went.

Bellsouth DOES SUCK!

Ok I totally agree, actually I think that you gave them too much credit. I had my service installed more than 2 months ago, and have had about 2 weeks of up time. When it works it works great with speeds in excess of 1.0mps, but that is no good when I lose sync, which is MOST of the time.

I live in the Miami area, using the Alcatel 1000 modem, with a direct home run, ie no other devices on the ADSL LINE. I have a copy of the notes Bellsouth keep on my technical issues, it's like 15 pages long. I have had 8 installers, 4 master installers, 3 truck rolls. Each one blames something else.

I have a friend who works as a tech for Bellsouth, with further investigation of their tech database, you would not belive how many other people have simular, re-ocurring problems. I think that they over sold the service too soon, too fast. When you complain, they offer you a credit for the downtime and apologize. Who cares about the money, I need my connection, If i cared about the money, I would do without it. Try to complain further, they say read the legal info, the service is as is and best effort based, don't like it, get lost and don't have broadband connection.

As consumers we have a right to complain and demand the service that has been advertised!

Remember if Bellsouth are allowed to get away with sub-standard services like this, the service will only get worse. With the money and power of Bellsouth and simular compaines, there may never be any other competion or alternatives, so they must be FORCED to provide the service, with quality, reliability and at a good price.

On a final note, yes I know the service is new, but it's gone through a long testing phase, Bellsouth have the money and technology, spend some of it and get the service working. If there are still issues with the technology, don't offer the service! until you get it right. Imagine Ford producing a car that broke down 95% of the time, or Microsoft selling an operting system that's full of bugs (opps they do!)

Speed slow here too

I just got my self install kit the other day, and while everything installed and connected smoothly, i have not seen more than 8K/sec download, while my upstream has been at the advertised rate. i dont know whats up, if anyone has any suggestions as to why my downstream is so slow i would like to know. Otherwise i guess i'll have to go call bellsouth.

(Update) Maybe I'M the sucker but ...

I just got off the phone with someone named Ron @ BS. For the first time I feel as though someone at BS had a real grasp of what my situation is. Ron was courteous, professional, asked the right questions, and did the right tests. Guess what, he comes to the same conclusion that I have, that there is a problem between the main box to the apt. complex and the pedestal at my building. Am scheduled for tech visit on Friday morning. The trick will be to see if the communication about our suspicions makes it to the tech so the correct diagnostics can be run. In any event I'm cautiously hopeful. I'll let you know.

Bellsouth is BS?

I've had excellent service for the last 3 years, with almost no major issues. All of a sudden 2 weeks ago, DSL goes down. I call and they say it was a problem with the main switch in the area. They advise it'll be back on in 2 hrs. 6hrs later it's still not on and I call. This time they say it'll be 11am the next morning. Ok, so I wait till the next morning and now they say it'll be 12pm the next day!....this went on for 4 days.....they're offer: refund me prorated amounts for the lost service (ie $42.95/30 days)....yeah, so for the price of a latte, I'm down a week with no service and they don't care.

2 weeks go by without issue, now it's starting again. This time it was only 2 days. They said it's a problem with the pipe, but couldn't elaborate.

so tempted to go back to cable at this point....just about had it.
