| Who would use a city run cable service? The real question is: Who wouldn't move to San Bruno just to get UNCAPPED downstream speed internet access for $29 with service that is QUALITY. You must be paid by Comcast!
Have you tried counting the number or satellite dishes you see on roofs in San Bruno - very few - there's a very good reason for that, and it's not COMCAST!

| Re: Who would use a city run cable service? well I can tell you, and I am not payed by comcast. THIS SERVICE IS HORRIBLE, its down all the time, and its so laggy if you play any games. It used to be good when theyre wasnt so many people using it, but now its gone to garbage. My family and I are seriosly thinking about switching to sattelite TV and getting SBC | |

| Re: Who would use a city run cable service? ajizzle is completely right. If you play any online games prepare to surrender them to the CAPPED INTERNET BETWEEN THE CONVENIENT HOURS OF 8PM AND 1:30AM. This service quickly turned bad amounts when mass of to people decided join this service. Sure they are upgrading to OC 3 witch might be better for a couple more months, but since most households in San Bruno are now joining this service, we will be back to where it is now. In short not worth the time or money. A better investment to switch to SBC Yahoo DSL. | |

@sanbrunocable.com | I'm one agitated gamer. Connection takes a dive around 6pm. Can't play a game. I'm switching to DSL.

| Re: Who would use a city run cable service? I wouldn't use a city to run a cable service; I'd leave it to the companies who do this sort of thing. Between 3pm-1am approximately everyday there is lag, with the worst periods being from about 7pm onward. Nothing like playing fps games and having constant 400 ping or higher... Download stream goes to hell too so simply browsing sites is painfully slow.
On another note it is February 22nd, San Bruno Cable's supposed "upgrade to OC3" day. It's about 4pm right now and ... I'm not lagging yet. I'll have to wait til later to really see if any improvements have happened.
I really hope so. I'm not in range of SBC or Comcast's service.
...I miss @home and it's 4000down/1000up.

@wellsfargo.com | Re: Who would use a city run cable service? Well I've been testing to see if the supposedly upgrade to OC3 in Feb 22 made any difference and I don't see any improvement whatsoever. Did the upgrade happen at all???

| Re: Who would use a city run cable service? It doesn't seem to have made any difference. Which is BS because I'm paying for the extra 512 upload, and 1/4 of the time, during day hours no less, I don't get said speeds. In fact, the only time I haven't seen latency slower than 400ms is at 3-4 in the morning. Usually it's more like 700-1000+.
What is really irking me about the new management is that the official website and contract still guarantee that we get uncapped downloads, one static IP and two dynamic IPs, and ten megabytes of online storage space. They keep saying it's going to get better, but the OC3 line is supposedly installed and it hasn't got any better.
I've been thinking about switching back to Dishnet and SBC Yahoo for a while, because satellite is so incredibly better than cable, and the only problems I have ever had with DSL were stupid trivial things that were resolved by calling customer service. I'm not going to leave San Bruno Cable just yet, but unless they fix the problems they're having I'm going back to DSL.

| I just moved to san bruno and read all the posts from 2002 and was thinking I would be in broadband heaven!
Instead the lag is HORRIBLE. You cannot do online gaming with the current state of their network. This is unless you want to play at 3am on Christmas Morning!
I just hope one 0c3 will do it, because if they underestimated demand again, it will be another six months without the online games.
And it is not only online games, many days I cannot stream video, I have do right-click and download inorder to view any video.
By the way, will we get a refund for the poor service? No.

| Well, as of Thursday the 24th things *seem* fixed... haven't had anything above 100 ping to various gaming servers but there was a two and a half hour downtime earlier where the modem wouldn't resync.
In speedtests I've never gotten above 2100; from the looks of the speedtest results seems no one else is either.
Now we wait and see if things truly are better.

| Ok. San Bruno Cable is now garbage. I've noticed it for months but keep it to myself. I did a speed test today and i'm getting 128kb. I get faster DL's with my dial-up account from earthlink. I might as well get ISDN if i'm going to get this crap. I've had it!! I think its time to look at alternatives. Anyone have any ideas? Please post.
If anyone is looking into San Bruno Cable. DON'T!!!!!
