| Re: Wrong distance sir :) Yeahs, the distance is a bit farther than 9000, I was one of the few who had their house magically move and lengthen distance when this new package was offered. Went from 5500 feet to 12800 feet.
Anyone have suggestions on getting Verizon to remeasure and get the real loop length corrected? ANY help would be appreciated (diehard BT user...I need upload ^^;;) Phone numbers, departments, specific lingo I should use when talking to them?

| Re: Wrong distance sir :) If you're past the distance, its not happening. The idiots only look at the number, and only have enough intellect to see if that number is over 11,000.
I lucked out, I'm at 10700
BTW, where do you BT from now, since all the major sites are gone?

| Re: Wrong distance sir :) I stand corrected. The Verizon person on the phone quoted 9,000 feet when I failed to qualify (but tried anyway.)
I already knew I wouldn't be able to get it as I've been at 12,500 feet, even though my copper signal properties could sustain it with no problems.
I haven't spotted my home traveling... YET! (That has to take the cake! Do you earn frequent traveler miles? heh)
FWIW Here's a grand BT site and these guys are not about to go down anytime soon: »www.thepiratebay.org/frame.html

| Most ADSL (Asynchronous DSL -- that's DSL that moves at different rates up and down) are available from 9,000 to 21,000 feet -- It's really NOT a measure of how far YOU are from the TELCO, it's a problem with line quality. I live 5 miles from the TELCO, the line rates are excellent, but then again my (CAT 5 instead of CAT 3) lines are brand new primo :-P
Still, Verizon DSL support SUCKS -- atleast they're NOT in India !!!

| Re: that should be going up Why thank you! Excellent news regarding loop distance. I will do just that.
Actually now that I think back, another tech quoted 10,000 feet as the cut-off for 3.0/768 but did mention (or rather blurbed and regretted mentioning) that the distance will be increasing with package maturity, as it's a newly rolled out tier.
Also, speaking to some local plant people, FIOS will be coming to the boroughs in middle 2006 and will be officially rolled out in time for the Holiday rush. (Taken with a grain of salt, but one can hope!)

| Re: that should be going up My house took a midnight stroll and my modem resynced at 768/128.
Folks I'm now 17,000 feet away from the CO.
I cancelled. And there went my only reason to keep a landline, which is cancelled as well.
Verizon pissed away a customer in one fell swoop. "But sir, you're at 17,000 feet and the best we can offer you is 768/128."
Wonderful. (sarcasm) | |

| Re: that should be going up MLT Finally performed showing 12,500 wirefeet. I know my line can support 3.0/768 based on the tranceiver metrics.
I'm back at 1.5/384 and hoping to get 3.0/768 one of these days.
Thanks again to the above poster regarding 13,000 feet.

| You're leaving something out about your deal You're leaving something out about your deal, which I find suspicious:
You got the 19.99 deal for three months because you purchased it as part of a PACKAGE deal, not simply getting DSL. You received other services with this package, and you have to maintain these services for a year.
Why not mention that? Because it brings the price up to well over 29.99 a month.

| Re: You're leaving something out about your deal It's true that I unwittingly left out the POTS portion of the bill.
It's was obvious to me that with the lack of naked dsl availability, most people have some sort of calling plan.
Our plan is costing $35+taxes/fees which includes calls within the region. The plan also includes caller-id, call waiting and call return and doubtlessly other features.
Actually the Verizon rep who took my order offered to _save_ us money. My wife had a package which charged for each phone call, regional or not. Her calling pattern is mostly local but she was running up $60+ bills per month.
With the $35 fixed price (+ taxes) our bills on that line will be around $50.
I like it when a sales rep is astute enough to suggest a calling plan that is more appropriate to our calling habbits and ends up saving us money.
