| Optimum Online SUCKSSS!! You are absolutly right brother I had them for 6 days and i was glad i did'nt cancel my DSL service with Verizon. Been have for six months now with Verizon. OOL's technical staff told me that my upload limit is 1 hour a month. Can you beleive that in the whole month 1 hour limit Otherwise I will be capped. Never go for OOL ever.

The upload limit is for 4 hours and when you are limited in upload, you are limited to 150 kb which regular verizon 29.99 plan, your upload is 128k. I think sometimes OOL customers get so spoiled with their speeds. Everyone else that would switch from RR or Verizon so not complain.
In my opinion from a technician's standpoint, if your complaining because you are using the service, please cancel your service. Do not waste our time and your time with your childish stories.
As for the guy with the billing issue.... I dunno what to tell you. Stick to America Online 4.95 plan. | |

If I upload my baby pictures to let my family overseas in the military see them... I get capped.... Thats entertainment for me and my family... and still get capped...

My speeds download speeds are down below 200KB/sec for most of the day...This has been going on for 4 months..Tech Support never sees any problems, and their Service Techs who came to the house never had equipment to test my cable properly. They tell me on the phone that 200KB/sec is acceptable download speed...Ummm 150x dial up??? How is 200KB/sec 150x dial up..20 calls and 6 techs later they finally may have pinpointed the problem.(was told the problem has been traced to the commack area) For anyone near ronkonkoma, if your speeds suddenly go up tomorrow, you can most likely thank me for calling tech support every night, and threatening Cablevision with a report to the better business bureau. There comes a point where they have to be help responsible for not providing the service we pay for. My complaints come from 4 months of speeds lower than 1000 kbps(under 100KB/sec download speeds at times). Their tech support is horrible, and have not once helped with my problem, and seem ignorant to any previous calls about the same ongoing issue. We pay for 2 modems in the house so we can use more bandwith, yet there isnt even enough to run one modem at 200KB/sec I would recommend dial up before I would recommend Optonline. The second Verizon offers FIOS in this area I will switch, and will make it my mission to get all friends of mine to also make the switch. Cablevision has been making too much money off of Long Islanders for too long. Finally we will have some retribution for the years of overpaying for subpar service. Watch how many Optonline customers switch to Verizon...

| 2 months ago I called OOL and told them Verizon is running fibers up my street. They are going to give me 15MB for $44.95.
If you want to keep me as a customer you'll give me a price adjustment since I'm paying you $49.95. And since you lost me as a TV customer you may want to try and keep me as an internet customer.
The rep said please hold and I'll transfer to a department that could handle my complaint... a few seconds later I was transferred... to the disconnect department. That was there response, they could care less.:(
Well after I got up and running Verizon FIOS 15MB service my call to the OOL disconnect dept they where NOW willing to adjust my bill... too late.
Cablevision and OOL are still their old arrogant self.
Cablevision! Verizon is a few months away from video TV service... tic-toc, tic-toc, tic-toc. | |

Too bad, as they now have to $pend truckload$ of money equivilant to a house mortgage to get a customer such as you back on tv advertising to the broadcast networks: abc,cbs,nbc,fox,etc,etc,etc! Some advertising is pooled by time warner, cox and cablevision as the 'ok cable' campaign to save money, but cablevision does their own partnering and advertising that is entrenched but it still takes money to maintain that acquisition of customers. Dunno, I've seen a load of cable truck rolls to my block recently.. then more than a few satellite dish installs thereafter. So its not just internet customers they are losing, its tv customers too. They keep claiming that they're gonna put that 50/50 megabit service in place soon, yeah beliver that crap if you want to like all the lies and deceptions of a once proud company.. don't take the crap from cablevision that they spew as if it were 'from the word of god' Oh, the throttled speeds are normal; no they're not, either its the result of oversold NODE management, or they just want to save money by delaying upgrades and keep bandwidth wholesale costs down for as LONG as possible. Ya know what! I hope they do.. when interest rates go up and they have to borrow the money to get new equipment, they'll totally screw themselves over and can join adelphia in the list of cable company bankrupcies. | Wow What a technician. ooltech610 if you were trained at OPTIMUM ONLINE then it's not your fault. Your intructers were monkeys to train you like that. This is not how you speak to customers who wanted to switch to you. What do you mean entertainment. If I have been said I am getting 10 down 1 up means atleast after all the over heads I should get atleast 6 down and 800 up. But after getting that I am capped? When I am paying my bill in full why there is a limit then? Hope to see Cable Vision(OOL) go bankrupt soon. | |

Think u r one of the unlucky ones... I really doubt your upload have been capped because you have been uploading for an hour at full speeds. I for one is very pleased with the service, I upload files up to 700MB to my friends a couple times a month, at 110KB/sec for an hour straight each transfer, never gotten capped. Maybe you, like many others i believe, haven't told the whole story and maybe you have been capped for uploading over 5-6+ hours full speed. OOL just doesnt cap you for uploading 5min or 30min or even an hour... | |

When you call them they say. the speeds is the same and it's still faster then DSL so what are you worried about..I also took OV and a week after they came and installed a new modem it went bad and I had no web or phone service..they said well it will be two or three days till we can get someone there to change the modem. I LOVED the service for the first few years but the last year it has gone down hill. I never thought I would leave but I did jump ship to Fios.. | |

| ool sucks! Well i been with OOL for 4 years lately I've been losing connection while having more than 3 MSG programs online or having my game opened with MSG program. Another thing is I've been getting horribly bad pings with in EAST COAST servers pings around 100+ who in the hell gets 100+ in your own location EAST COAST I hit 500 last night playing BattleField
2. Technical support suck I know more than them. Yes they are throlling your cable m0odems so avoid. it's expensive and its been very bad lately. Go with DSL for these reasons:
You have wut they tell u ex: 6mb/800 In rush hours like 5Pm Cable line is shared so ur connection goes away. For DSL its urs! it will not be shared. Price is good ...u know to download songs still good its not like if it matters bc ur downloading from a guy and that guy con only let X ammount of speed so doesnt matter. DSL upload is close to a cable upload only 300kb below not even CABLE is 1 MEG DSL is 800KB....DSL has nice pings to any side of the world.
Or you can defenetly go with COMCAST Cable not as fast as OOL but OOL sucking lately so COMCAST beat em up. and I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE HIT 0 PINGS in games so even better

Well i just got the OPTIMUM BOOST. averages 28mb/s down and 3.8 mb/s up. but there is a big BUT... EVERY SINGLE PORT BUT 25 and 80 are blocked. anybody have any suggestions or ideas how to go around this ? and don;t tell me DSL that is just not fast enaugh. | |

Optonline spam filters are so rigid that people can't white list valid e-mail addresses. I can't send e-mails to my friends!!! On top of that, the Optonline customer service never answers my e-mail and I've been unable to talk to a real person to solve this problem.
It seems that the only answer is to encourage everyone to dump Optonline and move to Verizon as it becomes available in our communities.
It's too bad because the Optonline products actually work OK. However, if you can't send an e-mail to an optonline user, what good is the service?? | |

i'd pay for business ool but it cost more than double with static ips and the speed is the same as regular boost with the same speed problems. | |

And again, Optimum Online does not cap, they Throttle. There's a difference. Now if you guys want to be stubborn and not know what the differences are, hey that's your problem.
And it's funny how the people that do get throttled, 97% of the time, they are doing something illegal. Uploading Warez etc etc etc. So why all the complaining? And the trained by monkeys comment, how uncivilized are you really? Typical talk from low class people. =) . I'm happy. For you guys not reaching those speeds
1) reset the modem
2) bypass the router (stop being stubborn)
3) call in, might be a signal issue
4) make sure you dont have p2p or spyware running in the background of your pc
5) replace modem
now if your throttled, tuff cookies. If you were uploading warez then you deserved it (which no one will ever admit to) | |

| disconnect not reading all of the bullshit comments here but just fyi to the person talking about being transferred to the disco dept, thats the department that will adjust your rate and give special credits, no other department is authorized.
I dont know if you stayed on the line when being transferred or not, but if you did you were probably offered a deal for your business.
As for the speed complaints, its not a system-wide network failure or whatever you're saying. OOL is a hybrid coax-fiber network, with fiber up to the node. Your individual speed depends on how close you are to the node. The huge majority of customers have close to or sometimes over the speed limits (15Mb standard or 30Mb w/Boost).
Also, you all seem to shrug off the whole "they blame the router or my pc." - 90% of the time as a technician troubleshooting slow speeds, when I bypass the router or run an FTP check (non browser-based and not affected by slow ass computers), the speed jumps way up, and still people refuse to believe it. Its not easy dealing with pricks like yourselves on a daily basis, and trying to do the best you can while being limited by what you're allowed to do. | |
