| Florida roadrunner reception HI, I read your review with interest, being that I'm slated for installaion of road runner tomorrow. I live in brooklyn, n.y.so I'm hopeing not to run into similar problems as yours. i recently returned from florida from my first visit to a niece. She has cable from a company called I believe Sciatl ( Science Atlantic ?). Never have I seen such poor reception from a cable company, especially in the early hours of morning...7 11 am. So it doesn't suprise me if one would sign up with that company for broadband, the reception that you were referring to. True, you may be useing another company. Here in NY, AOL and Time warner run Road runner. Does time warner run yours? Would appreciate any info that I should know about road runner, keeping in mind the different locations. I do have the choice of cancelling within a month. Good luck. Tony | |

| Re: Florida roadrunner reception I'm actually from Northeastern NJ, used to work in Manhattan, and have been living in Florida for a little over a year and a half. The service is still Time Warner's Roadrunner, but there is a huge difference between Brooklyn and Central Florida in terms of the capacity the respective networks, so I doubt you'll have the problems I've had. The story of why Time Warner changed their name in this area to BrightHouse Networks is supposedly Time Warner had such a bad reputation they felt a name change was needed. BrightHouse generally falls behind the curve o' change, but they surprised me when they raised the standard speed package to 5Mbps down about the same time other Roadrunner markets did. My parents live about two hours South of me on the coast and they are using Bell South DSL that is already at 6Mbps down and 768kbps up. I'd kill for the extra upload speed. Good luck with the install. | |

They however contract RoadRunner services from Time Warner Cable.

| Re: Florida roadrunner reception Time Warner used independent contractors for their field reps. Now since Brighthouse is owns it they are going to be training and employeeing their own techs in the next 6-8 months. If you look in your local paper they are looking for new workers that they will train. I was fortunate enough getting an actual Brighthouse employed tech to my house and let me tell you the quality in service was alot better than the people you usually get. But, that is a left over from the Time Warner days. | |

| Payroll doesn't go through Time Warner. And Bright House acquired the properties of all the systems involved in the transaction. Bright House Networks and Time Warner are two different companies. -- Dear Lord, just let me make it through today! | |

| Actually, TWC owed Brighthouse for some event in the past. Part of the deal was that Brighthouse would get to purchase X number of TWC properties when the agreement came due. They chose several of the FL properties. Brighthouse owns those networks, but since TWC had been so nice in building up the infrastructure there and hiring the support people, etc, they kept RR as the broadband provider, and took on most of the TWC personnel to run things for them.
As for TWC's bad rep, well, let's think about this. Brighthouse can purchase whatever properties it wants....it wants properties in FL.....do they buy the ones with the weak infrastructure and an average income in the lowest 30%, or the ones with the bad-ass, upgraded infrastructure and $400K homes? Gee, let me think.....

| Re: Florida roadrunner reception I have had problems with road runner lately in North Carolina. I was getting speeds of 229 BYTES a second (not KB, just B!!!!)....so I called them and they said there was nothing wrong with the modem. They ran me through test websites and stuff and now I am getting like 4.0 mbps...not bad but the thing is I can't use my wireless router because they told me to take it out and do a direct connect to the PC. I don't have time to reinstall and install crap, they are sending a tech on sunday, 2 days from now... | |

Serving approximately 2.1 million cable customers, the systems that Advance/Newhouse will manage are located in Central Florida; Tampa Bay, FL; Birmingham, AL; Indianapolis, IN; Bakersfield, CA and Detroit, MI; and will include several smaller systems in Alabama and northern Florida.
As a result of this restructuring, Advance/Newhouse's economic interest in the cable partnership will track only those systems that it will manage rather than one-third of all cable partnership systems. The economic stakes of AOL Time Warner and Time Warner Entertainment Company, L.P. (TWE) - a separate partnership between AOL Time Warner and AT&T - will track the cable partnership's other systems. When the transaction is complete, Time Warner Cable will continue to fully manage cable systems serving a total of 10.8 million cable subscribers.
Time Warner Cable will continue to provide certain management functions, including programming, for all of the cable partnership's systems. In addition, all of the cable partnership's systems, including those to be managed by Advance/Newhouse, will continue to support multiple ISPs - including AOL High Speed Broadband, Road Runner and EarthLink services - and will roll out other new service technologies like video-on-demand (VOD), subscription VOD, digital video recording and home networking. In the future, the partners will explore ways to work together to provide technological and new product development services jointly for all of the cable partnership's systems.
"We are pleased that this agreement will keep Advance/Newhouse and its cable subscribers in the family," said Glenn Britt, Chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable. "Together, we will ensure that our customers enjoy a seamless transition, while we continue to benefit operationally from the existing advantages of scale."
