Squeaky Wheel, meet Grease

Don't be sorry. I read your original searing review of db3's treatment of former Startnetwx customers, and it looks to me that db3 only responded to you *AFTER* you posted it on BBR. BBR is in the top 20 worldwide for forum traffic - hmm...

Re: Squeaky Wheel, meet Grease

It's possible that they saw it, but I didn't get any indication from the guy I worked with that they did. I think they're just having a difficult time getting the old and the new equipment working peacefully together. According to the tech I've been working with, they just got "my" tower up and running on Canopy, and they're still tweaking it.

For the record, I'm now up and running on db3. Luckily, I was able to keep my old Starnetwx email address (which was a deal-breaker).

The only gripes I have for now (I'm still holding off updating my review for now) are:

1. Antenna is a monstrosity. A 24 inch round dish, which, combined with my oval DirecTV dish, probably doesn't make my landlord too happy, especially the way it hangs off the side of my balcony. Don't get me wrong, the installer did a professional job. It's just that my Starnetwx antenna was much less obtrusive (a flat square). I was originally told that the DB3 antenna would be a small "pod" that "looks like R2D2". But the installer had a hard time getting a decent signal, so the dish it is. Nothing I can do about it, but it's something to consider.

2. Latency is not great, at least when it comes to online games. Lowest ping on Call of Duty is 70, whereas I could consistantly get 30's on a few servers when on Starnetwx. I'll give them a while longer to work out the bugs and see what happens.

The good news is that I'm averaging over 2500+ DL and 800 UL, which is FAR better than I ever got with Starnetwx (my best was around 650 DL, and that's been a couple of years ago). The bad news is that I still get occasional 'hiccups', where it will refuse to connect for several seconds, or it will simply crap out on me in the middle of a DL. These are becoming less common, and again for now, I'll attribute it to the work they're still doing on the tower. The problem was much MUCH worse on Starnetwx though, so this I can tolerate for now.

The jury's still out, but I'm starting to have a little more hope that things will work out.

By the way, I just want to say again that the tech support has, in my case, been excellent. I talked to 'M' tonight, to get set up with a static IP, and he helped me with some router problems I was having, something they're even not supposed to support.
