| fyi have you checked your rx and tx levels. if you're having so many consistent issues 99% chance the problem is not in the network but with your inside wiring, which in some systems is youre sole responsibility. if you give me your mac address i can check it out in the cmts on tuesday. | |

| Re: fyi I have over a week's worth of modem tests. Downstream power is consistent at +2dBmV, S/N is 37dB +/-1, upstream power has varied from 36 to 44dBmV. I just finished cleaning and tightening all connections inside and outside the house; no change in modem levels or speeds.
Also just got off the phone with Comcast customer (non)service. They closed the ticket I had open with them without confirming or resolving the problem. They insist on a truck roll; I don't see how that'll help with all the modem specs being normal. -- Son, there's only one thing you need to know: HEMI

| From your post it kind of sounds as if you have already negated a possible solution by not allowing them to roll a truck due to your opinion it's not at the home. Allow them to do what they need to do and let them roll a truck to check it out. -- Your friendly neighborhood cabledude. | |

| Thanks for the comments.
With respect to "that's how it's supposed to work", I get these abysmal speeds all the time. Weekday mornings, weekday evenings, weekends, it's been the same for a month now.
With respect to the truck roll, I did in fact agree to having them come out and they're scheduled to do so tomorrow (4 June). Given that my modem stats have been solid all along, I still just don't see what they're going to be able to do that will improve anything. The network and routing gurus don't generally ride along on the trucks, do they?
I'm convinced, based on Ethereal traces I ran, that there's a routing problem in the Comcast backbone. Still doing the analysis and will post when complete. -- Son, there's only one thing you need to know: HEMI

| Almost the same problem here.... I had 3000 down for the longest time until they did something and now I can't get over 2500 even though I am supposed to be at 4000 according to comcast. I have an SB4100 modem I bought and they claim it has the right config file.
Right next door to you in Ellicott City.

| Re: Almost the same problem here.... Seems like the same problem across the board. DSL providers are limited with respect to speed because of distance and the medium. DSL providers respond with aggressive prices. Cable companies have large shared pipes. They respond by increasing the maximum download speed saturating the shared medium with offering vapor speeds that "compete" with DSL. Stop using them. Go with the cheap and slow dsl. Get DTV. Stop throwing away cash.

| Same Problem I moved from Anne Arundel County in Laurel to Prince Georges County in Laurel. I had the triple play in AA Co and loved my service. When I moved to PG County there seemed to be a problem with everything. The technicians had the wrong order and would only do what was on the order form. I had three different technicians come to my house each doing one simple thing (only what was on the form) and never got the problem fixed (slow internet). In AA Co, the technician worked diligently to find and fix any problems in one trip. | |
