PING Latency Tests
1/31/07
Recently FDN (florida digital) had upgraded our DSL circuit to a new dslam, theirs, off of the bellsouth dslam (a resold circuit). The move was to their new DSL2+ Dsalm in the Bellsouth CO

Our Packet times have increased 10 fold, they have blamed it on our equipment. Not the case, our latency is no more than 3ms from their router in our office back through our firewall. Latency across the DSL to their dslam varies from 70-80+ms. Latency is now in excess of 200ms to 300ms on average across the net to a customer of ours on a 10mbit pipe. As well as to other various vendors we access the e-commerce sites daily, also at 200 to 300ms average latency, not disclosed in the attached file. Most of these are normally 20-35 ms from any other carrier, t1, dsl, or wifi circuit. We literally reside no more than 3000ft line of site to the Bellsouth CO.

Before the FDN change they were no more than 30ms worse case. We periodically loose connectivity across their network. The DSL stays up(does not have to resync), but we cannot send or receive a single packet for 30 seconds to over 3 or 4 minutes at a time, randomly throughout the day. This is not just our DSL, it is common among all customers of ours, that we have tested that have FDN. We have had many leave FDN for the same issues.

I deal daily with carrier issues for customers. This is by far the worst of all the carriers I have seen. The Tech who I spoke with today insisted it was our equipment, further worsened the service by lowering our bandwidth, adding another 50ms latency in their changes.

The tech's comment "we do not guarantee" "speed" or "loss" or "latency". The internet tech refused to address the latency issue, kept referring back to the speed not being guaranteed. Refused to address the periodic "freezes" without charging us to dispatch a tech. Their Bellsouth resale circuit was better on latency.

My suggestion, stick with Bellsouth or another carrier.
