| Anon | southwestern HELL
I have had the same response from SW"hell". In June, my wife, switched local service to AT&T without knowing that it would shut down my DSL service. Immediately,(after reading about Bells slow response times) called bell to turn my service back on. To no suprise, I knew that I would have to wait for 3 weeks. Well.. 3 weeks drug by, and on the week of my switch back, I called to see how things were going.. "Well.. " they tell me, There is no disconnect order for your DSL (from when we accidently disconnected service) and that I would have to wait for another 3 weeks after the order is complete!! I asked the rep. "why isnt there a disconnect order if I was disconnected???" no explaination to this day.. also, I was told by other techs at Bell, that there was no need for a disconnect order if I was going to reconnect.. and that if they disconnect me now, that I will have to wait.. and if they dont disconnect me that I wont have to wait.. either way, Im F@#Ked, because I have to deal with SW"HELL" sooooo.. To those who think that you can switch services(local) think again.. or end up like me.. out of service.. ****SwBell.. whats up with you??***

| SW Bell has the worst service there is!!
Dear SW Bell: I would like to take a few minute to express how upset I am with your service and DSL product.
Several months ago, I called SW Bell to sign up for service if it was available in my area. The representative said it wasn't. After speaking to my apartment manager, she indicated that there were at least 5 of my neighbors who did have the service so I decided to call again. This time the representative said I might be able to get it, but she would get back to me the next day. A week went by without any phone call. I called back. This time the representative said that it was "likely" that it was available in my area. Again, she would call me back. Another week went by. I called for the fourth time. This time the representative said that it was DEFINIATELY available in my area, so I placed my order. During the conversation, she said that I would receive my modem a week before my install time which was a month later. I was to call if I hadn't received it at least a week in advanced.
That date came and went, so I called again. They said to wait a few more days and then to call back if I hadn't gotten it. It still didn't come, so I called again. This time they called the equipment department. No one was there and I was to call the following day. I called the next day and again no one was there, but this time the SW Bell operator "would call me back". After not receiving a phone call, I decided to call yet again. This time someone was actually in the equipment department. They said it had already been shipped out that very day and to expect it in 3 days. That was Friday July 21st. Several days later it still hadn't arrived. I called again on July 26th which was my install date. The SW Bell rep called the equipment department and they said that my order was lost. I wonder how they lost my order if it was already shipped. Again, they said it would arrive in three more days. Now today (July 28), I called the Tech Support to see if I could use a DSL modem that I currently own. The support staff said I couldn't, but they wanted to check again into why I didn't receive my modem. So he called the equipment department again. What a coincidence!! My order was lost for the second time. I am to wait for another three days for my DSL modem!!
In my entire life I do not believe I have ever seen any service as bad as SW Bell's DSL service. I will be checking into Road Runner.
Absolutely pathetic!!!
Very upset, Phillip Dauben

Hey!
You have a choice!
ALLTEL offers ADSL in LR for roughly the same price and speed. I have them and It was MUCH smoother. I have 1.536/128 and I've been fairly happy.
Call 905 5000 and they can get you set up.
| | | Anon | Re: LR alternative to SW Bell
I'm wondering how anyone else is sooooo much better since most of the ISP's out there offering DSL have to go through SWB on a wholesale basis? The other thing I'm scratchin my head on, would you guys rather DSL providers wait until they have alllll their ducks in a row before they launch this service in your area, or be the first of few to get this kind of broadband with a few headaches? Be honest. Seems everybody is griping about catching a ride on the space shuttle when all they have now is a broke down piece of crap bicycle.
| | | | Anon | Re: LR alternative to SW Bell
A "FEW" headaches is one thing, but SBC is F**KED all to hell!!!! If I had know that would have talked to 28 people about my DSL in the first two months and all this frustration, then HELL NO I would not have ordered it!!! All you ever get from anyone associated with SBC are lies, excuses, and finger pointing. But especially "NO DAMN HELP!" Just a bunch of freakin idiots!!!!!!!!!!!

| One of the advantages ALLTEL has is that they are a facilitied based CLEC. Meaning they own their own DSLAMS, do their own billing, and have their own installers/customer service/billing etc.
All ALLTEL does is leas the lines from Bell. My bussy that works there says that they do have some problems getting lines in the CO cutover sometimes. But they avoid alot of the headaches that folks on this board see. The main disadvantage is that ALLTEL has to wait on Bell to do the Loop qualifications. Amazingly enought, some get "misplaced"
In response to your other"head scratcher": That's just the price we pay for being early adopters. Remember we're using the internet - not saving lives.

| Re: LR alternative to SW Bell I just called Alltel. The charge is $39.95 a month and your residential phone service has to be with them also. They do not offer anything other than one dynamic IP address - currently I subscribe to the "enhanced" service with 5 dedicated IP addresses. I hope that soon they will start offering more than one dynamic address. I would jump to alltel in a New York Second, even at higher prices, if I got better services than southwestern bell... | |

| Duh? I called SWB about the middle of April; because they had an adversitement in a local paper, for free installment, free modem. That is about $400-$500 less that I have to worry about. The lady (Patty, she said) said that dsl was not available in Fayetteville, Arkansas (where I live). I am thinking, why advertise for free instilation and modem if dsl is not available in your town yet? Duh? Patty asked if I would like to add my name to "The List", and she would call me back when I was availble in Fayetteville, Ark. I said "yes". That was (what!?!?), almost 4 months ago. I also, called Cox Cable for cable internet. (Duh again?) I called 2-4 times, total. Everytime, the reps. were eager to add me to cable internet. I called back the last time to tell them I wanted cable internet. The lady asked me my street address. I told her. She said that cable internet was NOT available in my part of town. Oh, I got so mad. After being told it was, then she said it was not! My mom got even madder. Mom got on the phone and griped her head off. I just found out the other day that SWB has dsl in Fayetteville, Arkansas. But they have not called me yet. Some one wake up. I am getting mad. I usually get 25kbps (with a 1.5kbs - 3.0kbs transfer) bandwith, on a really fast day. The slowest it was, 19kbps. The longer I wait, the madder I get. | |

| Re: Duh?
mrdialup,
If you are mad now, just anticipating being able to get DSL, I am worried about your health once you make the order.
All kidding aside you had better get a serious case of the pateince. The worst part of the SWBell DSL service is getting a problem solved. Once the service is installed and working it is great. However, even minor and seemingly trivial problems can take days, weeks, months to reslove, all involving many phone calls to a tech support line that takes 2-3 minutes of press 1-2-2 then listen to this over and over again, just to be put on hold.
I am starting to rant so time to cut this off. Good luck to you and your Mom, get a good book a good hobby or something else to pass the time while waiting. The game just begins.
| | | Anon | mrdialup, Yes DSL is available in Fayetteville (that's where I'm at; I called in March), but the CO from which it is served is the SWBell building down by "The Square". You may not be close enough to that CO. I have not had the best of luck with SWBell DSL and have posted (actually bitched would be more like it) here regularly. But I do know someone in Fayetteville that has had fairly good luck, but that person was installed on about the third day after it was publicly available. When installed seems to be important, with those that I know of that are happy (including a couple in Bentonville) are the early installs, while later ones are generally pissed. Lastly I don't know about COX, but the last time I talked to them they claimed something like a year, but that has changed everytime I have talked to them so I don't really know. I do know several people who are on COX cable and are generally happy with them and have gotten their problems addressed everytime they have had them. SWBell on the other hand do nothing but point fingers, make excuses, and fail to keep promises. This is something you have gotten a taste of already. IF I had the option to switch, I would do so in a heartbeat, $200 be damned. Hope this helps you not feel too much of a lost over SWHell DSL. | |

| Re: Thanks, don't forget about us! what's really funny is I have 4, yes 4, email addresses with Yahoo that get no spam whatsoever, why? Because I never give it on a website, I use https when I sign in and I opt out of all the promotions when I set it up. That's the key. We don't sell it, just some spammers target Yahoo and hotmail, because so many use it. They use dictionary attacks, brute force, strings, and some illegal measures to get your address including packet sniffing.
We don't sell your address. -- Thank you for choosing SBC Internet Services. My name is Rick. How may I help you today?
