Well, I was paying $17.45 a month for 768/128 with my previous ISP. Paying $24.95 a month for the same package is a bit of hike from that. Of all the ISP's I was considering, Blarg was actually the most expensive (for the per month charge). The others just didn't have all the features I wanted like static ip, unmetered transfer, webmail, etc. But for the money I'm paying now, I can't complain because the service I am receiving is outstanding.

how much are those? | |

| | | | Anon | Re: A little on the expensive side?? There must be a lot of competition for your business in your area.
Even cable modem access here is $39.95 a month($41.23 with all the extra licensing and the cable taxes)
Gosh, please come back and post where you live(City, State, ect)
Maybe competition really does end up making the best and cheapest product?

yeah the service sounds great but you dont realize the other charge from gte for 30 something a month so yeah you get dsl for around 50$ a month.. Nothing cheap about that

| Anon | So far so good
After I read your story, I decided to send them an email with lots of questions. Well, I sent tons of email to all DSL company but no one send me any respond except Blarg. So, I can say "So far, So good..." How did you get that $24 something? I have to pay $34.95 with 1 year contract. I am in Puyallup, WA.

I have the DSL Standard package (For use with GTE's Bronze Plus line [768/128])from Blarg which is $24.95 a month. Keep in mind that I have GTE where I live. I bet you have US West, in which case your rates are going to be different. I also have to pay $32.50 a month to GTE for the DSL loop which brings my total cost for DSL to $57.45 a month. I have no contract with Blarg but I do have a 1 year contract with GTE.

| No outage for me then?? "Blarg was down for about 24 hours from 8/24 to 8/25. I'm not positive whether it was them or GTE but for now I'll have to drop them one star for Connection Reliability. That's an unsatisfactory down-time for an always-on service."
Hmmmm..
I was on then a bunch, my wife during the day, we both were on at night. I'd check that it wasn't GTE messing with your line.
Did you contact Blarg about it?
BTW, did you get the E-mail from Blarg offering a Dial-up account for free as a back-up? That way, you could still get on, and make sure it just wasn't GTE...

| Re: No outage for me then?? It looks like GTE really was the problem. I found this page here that has GTE DSL system status on it: "http://cgi.gte.net/systemstatus/status.asp?StatusType=DSL"
GTE has been working on lines from the 24th through today. Says outages would last between 10-15 minutes but it looks like they were having some problems!

| Anon | Blarg and GTE have been pretty disapointing..
I moved to Marysville in early November. Took a damn week to get a phone number, and another three weeks to get this turd they call DSL. (Strike one for GTE) When DSL was finally installed, The modem didn't connect.. flashing light. I called, they sent a man out the next day. He removed an 800' bridge tap, and told my wife that he wasn't able to get into the CO to do something else, but to call him if it didn't connect. (Left no phone number.. no name.) The modem connected when it felt like it. I called again. I stayed home from work that day so as to get the full scoop onto what was up with my connection. After about an hour of farting around on the phone, they (The man here and the lady on the other end) "turned up" my signal strength. I tried getting the technical explanation from the service man, but didn't get anything good.
Now, the modem stays up 80% of the time, and I have a really sweet ping to my favorite server... at 4AM!
During peak hours it totally sucks. 24, 34, 350, 278, 36, 290, is an example of my ping to my bridge router! (Yes, the first hop on my way to where I'm wanting to go) Blarg claims they have fixed the congested router, but its still the same high latency congestion I saw before.
Yesterday I was so very close to signing on with Covad/Oz, but I just can't afford it. (Oz is a completely excellent ISP in all regards, best in the state in my opinion. But they don't do GTE!)
Blarg tries.. they've replied a number of times to my whining,.. I'll give them another month, if not, then I'm off to find the greener grasses.
GTE is a turd. If you can afford it, go with somebody that does DSL correctly.

| | Anon | Re: Blarg and GTE have been pretty disapointing..
Correction.
I just received a call in regards to my DSL problems from Blarg. After spending the majority of the day working with Verizon, my main man at Blarg tells me that they have found the problem, and it should now be working wonderfully.
It seems the problem was effecting the entire city of Marysville! So now all should rejoice.
Thank you Blarg for your help in this matter.

|
| | | | Anon | Re: Blarg and GTE have been pretty disapointing.. No end yet. With Blarg's help, we have determined that it is my DSLAM that is massively congested. Verizon "said" they were going to switch me to a "less congested" T1 last Tuesday, but they haven't done it. (and I really mean T1) | |
