They're doing pretty good

Compared to some of the horror stories about providers in rural areas, I'd say PTD is doing OK.

Wish they'd either up or get rid of the stupid caps, but it's a reality I guess we have to live with for now.

I have the DOCSIS3 service and it's pretty consistent and a lot better than the 10M service. Maybe not worth the extra price but it is consistent.

Re: They're doing pretty good

20GB caps? Say what?

I have the 15/2 service through Blue Ridge cable. I've been told the unofficial cap is 80 GB's a month. I've done 90 gigs a couple of times and they haven't bothered me. Yet...

The 10 GB's is the usenet access they give you through Giganews. It's not much, but Giganews is excellent and a lot of other ISP's have dropped their usenet service altogether. So chalk one up for Prolog.

I can't complain about the service. I do get my full speed, and it's very reliable. The network rarely goes down, and when it does on the odd occasion it's just for a short time.

I can't get 30 Mbps speed, so I guess Blue Ridge Cable isn't DOCSIS 3?

I wish they would drop the caps altogether. Or just charge another $10 a month for unlimited. I'd pay it.

I find myself watching more and more TV online at sites like Hulu because broadcasters are stuffing 16:9 programs back into 4:3 full screen- and it looks like cr@p. At least online at the network sites and Hulu you can watch stuff in the proper aspect ratio...

Re: They're doing pretty good

PTD caps seem to vary depending on whether you're on BRC or SECTV.

In SE Cable of NJ (Sparta area) the caps are 60G for 10M service and 100G for 30M DOCSIS3 service.

The commercial accounts are 75G/75G and I don't know what speed.

So I guess BRC is a bit more generous than SECTV...

I considered a commercial account, but why bother if it's got a 75 gig cap? One would think that a "commercial" account would be unlimited... and one would be wrong.

That makes no sense at all.

I don't need the upload- just the download. So if I did 145 gigs down and 5 gigs up on a commercial account- would it balance out? I wonder....

It isn't very fast though- I think their commercial accounts are only 5 Mbps.

I'm watching my shows online now, and if they're going to boot me I'll just switch to DSL. At least there aren't any caps. I'd rather go with a commercial account from Prolog because 5 Mbps is faster than 3 Mbps DSL... but I won't deal with caps.

They're gonna be in trouble if FIOS ever gets here, that's for sure.

Re: They're doing pretty good

Commercial accounts do not have caps, just not super fast speeds, unless they changed the TOS recently.
I have already downloaded over 300gb/month and never got billed any overage fees.

I have a 4gb download/768k upload account which is $70/mo.
Less than your super high speed capped account. What good is the speed if you are capped?

You have a commercial account with Prolog?

When I checked, the commercial accounts were indeed capped at 75 GB's.

And you're right- what good is high speed when you're capped?

At least Comcast gives you a 250 GB cap. Anything less than that for a high speed account is ridiculous, what with Netflix, Hulu, and now YouTube joining in the online tv/movie streaming game.

It's a new age, and the cable companies want you to have to get your video only from them... and pay through the nose for it.

Re: They're doing pretty good

I DO have a commerical account with prolog.

Maybe I have just been lucky, If there is a 75 GB monthly cap I have been exceeding it about 30-50% of the time.

Possibly they average your usage over a period of months, or they just don't enforce it.

I just pulled out a copy of my contract and I see no language regarding caps. Can you supply a link to this information the ptd.net web site?
