San Bruno Cable

Can slow down at peak times, but normally not bad. Mostly much faster than 3000Mb DSL. Late at night I sometimes get downstream that appears to be limited by the 10-base-T ethernet that comes out of the modem!

Recently I've had packet loss issues which now appears to have resolved.

I'm no gamer, but do depend on fast downloads and uploads for my business. I suspect from previous feedback gamers may not be happy, but general users might be.

San Bruno Cable local staff are very friendly, willing, and install and local customer service is top notch. However, most tech support seems to be provided by Parasun and frankly all I could say based on my experiences with them is that they are mostly friendly. I've wasted many hours with Parasun.

If you want the standard "home user" type of package, I would recommend San Bruno Cable. If you want more than that such as multiple static IP's, IP's that are not designated as Dial up or dynamic (and therefore useless for mail servers), reverse DNS, etc, go with a more "switched-on" DSL provider.

I think the price is at least $10 too high.

Re: San Bruno Cable

beware that they now classify abuse as 50gigs usage a month so if you want the flexibility to go over it now and again you may want to look elsewhere.

What is this 50gigs a month thing? Where do I find out about that?

Re: San Bruno Cable

I guess you would either have to email them or call and ask about it. They started this policy very recently. I was told personally that once a user goes over 50 gigs of bandwidth used that their account gets put into a special traffic shaping group until the beginning of the month and then is reset. When i was part of this "special" group just about every port was throttled and I couldn't do some of the simplest things such as telnet, ssh, remote access, get a manual from a web site that uses ftp port 21 due them being super slow and timing out. I'm pretty sure if I used VOIP that it wouldn't have worked either. I could still use anything on the web as long as it used port 80 but if anything didn't such as some video or music streams it wouldn't really work either.

Honestly, 50 gigs probably among the lowest limits enforced by a American Cable company. I have a friend in Australia that gets 60 and Shaw cable in Canada gives only 50 but American cable ISP's have always seemed to be more generous than that.

Re: San Bruno Cable

is that 50gb down traffic or combined up and down traffic?

damn, need to move to a different house.

Re: San Bruno Cable

I was told it was combined traffic:(. Hopefully San Bruno Cable gets enough complaints to make them reconsider this policy and move up the amount that they feel is acceptable. I still think 50 gigs is super low for a American cable ISP. It very well may be the lowest in the nation.

wow. just wow.

I'll be complaining, that's for sure. 50gb combined is nothing for a month.
