I would love to. Now if only they'd make there way into Western Massachusetts. If you go through any local town here, it looks like we're running @SETI home base. All you see is dishes out of just about ever window here.

Verizon DSL will have to do for now though.

They will be around soon. Keep your eyes on the Verizon Fios forum here.

By the way, did you manage to get the 3000/768 package?

Re: FiOS

When I first joined Verizon DSL, yes. The modem read higher though 3.5mb / 868

For DSL I'm using the basic package 768/128, although my modem says its just a little higher then that (868 / 196). It's really no big deal to me and the price was a good deal also. Their services seem much more user friendly and I have had no problems as of yet.

I'm unsure on what package I had with Comcast.

^_^ The 15 dollar package is good, but I'm considered a heavy user so I'd either go with the 3000/768 package or FiOS if either were accessable to me. (I'm in Bellsouth/AT&T section) And are on cable.

Judging from the price you paid, you wanted the cable internet only, which is why they charged you so much.

Good luck and enjoy that FiOS when it arrives. Don't forget to take pictures and review too! ^_^

Re: FiOS

You are clearly biased against Comcast. Nice smear campaign, do you work for Holyoke G & E or Verizon? At least come up with some believable stuff. It wouldn't surprise me if you were both "oldschool" and "fios". Good day to you sir!

Holyoke G & E offers T1 & T3 lines downtown only and they are WAY over priced. Although they also offer dial-up, but that was not to my liking. I needed high speed that worked, was user friendly, and was not over priced. It's not my fault that Verizon was the ONLY one to fit this need.

No I do not work for either. Do you work for Comcast and that is why you can't except seeing bad reviews for them?

The price would have been 10.00 - 20.00 more without the cable tv or so they quoted me. The price I was paying or so they claimed, was with the discount already added. But I know people who had it lower or so I thought.

Funny. . .

It funny to me that your connection is so "slow". I mean, you used those really accurate speed tests (not) which told you are going too slow, yet you are downloading at or above your advertised speed. »Signal And of course, there would be nothing wrong with your router or wireless connection right?

As far as any customer service issues you have had, I can't deny them if they are true. That definitely sucks. But at least review the service itself accurately.

As of today I've replaced my router, network card, and even tried using someone else's modem. Plug directly into the router (not wireless) and also used their laptop. The "signal" has not changed and my connection continues to go on & off.

edit: How long should it take to download a small file (say 2 - 5mb)? For me it's sometimes ok (1-2min) and other times its a little longer (2-4min).

Comcast Issues

For Comcast users in MA, the Commonwealth's Dept of Telecommunications & Energy has a web site where you can file a complaint.

Comcast was billing me for the cable modem for three years until I noticed it on a paper bill. I called customer service and got the usual BS about taking the modem to service center, yada yada. I went to the DTE website, filed an online complaint and received a call back within a few hours from a woman at DTE. She explained DTE has no authority over internet service, but she would send my issue to Comcast "corporate customer service". Next day, I received a call from corporate and the helpful fellow asked for more details and would resolve the issue. He did ask for a receipt, and my response was that I didn't have a three year old receipt. I suggested they query the modem, and he agreed they could do that. It took a few days to pull up three year old records, but within a week, I had a refund on my bill and as a result, had no charge service for two and one-half months.

If you're having an issue, be clear, unemotional and cool. It will get you much further. Most states have cable regulatory bodies, try them if you can't get past tier 1 customer service.

Comcast and other businesses would certainly save themselves a lot of ill will and bad press is they would give tier 1 people greater authority.

My experience with Comcast, both in my office and in my home, has been positive.

Having an issue?

"If you're having an issue, be clear, unemotional and cool. It will get you much further. Most states have cable regulatory bodies, try them if you can't get past tier 1 customer service."

I agree with the cool head part, but I'd have been gone after 1/10th of what this guy has been through -- and was; with the Adelphia crooks right before the migration. All HSI is a ripoff, so what difference does it make if you bounce from one crooked outfit to the next? Soon they'll all be under two or three roofs in the name of competition; may as well have some fun while you can.

Moral: dump any service that can't get its head out.

FYI

"8.) My service was unplugged for 7 days, because a Comcast Tech mixed up my line on the poll with someone else's.

9.) Got a letter saying I used to much bandwidth, during the time someone else was getting my High Speed for free (see #8 above)"

#9 has nothing to do with #8.

Yes it does.

If you joined now, never used your connection, and then someone else got a hold of your connection (you lost yours) and then by the time you fixed the matter, you got a letter saying you've used to much bandwidth. How can the two not be connected?!?

Re: FYI

Tap ports (hookups on the pole or in the cable box) are not account specific. You can switch drops around and will make no difference.

The only way to use your service is

Register a different modem on your account
Use your unprotected wireless network
