WILDBLUE Ripoff

I have had wildblue since June 1 2006. Very dissapointed in the installation, customer service, tech support and the actual internet service or the LACK THERE OF!!!!!!!! I was charged $360 for upfront parts plus another $60 for a pole cause the installer would not mount it on my house as I asked. From the start there were problems staying connected. After numerous calls to tech support they gave me a number of the installer who originally installed the junk and now does not answer his phone or return my messages I left. The installer even told me when he was putting it in I would not be happy. I guess I should have listened cause now I can not cancel the service without a penality. I canceled the credit card that pays them so maybe they will get the picture. DO NOT BUY OR USE THEM. YOU WILL BE VERY SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: WILDBLUE Ripoff

Wow. The installer said you wouldn't be happy? That's discouraging. It makes me question his competency (and his lack of ethics for selling a product he doesn't believe in). I had to look at a map to see where Somerville is, and see if we are on the same beam. You are on a different beam than I am. Some beams are reported to be over crowded. I'm on Beam 42.

As for tech support, I've only dealt with them once since installed Oct 31 2005, and they sent a truck within 24 hours.

The service is a GREAT service as long as it is installed by the right people. ANYBODY who gets the response YOU got from an installer, and you still let him install it, should get ANY Sat service is 95% based upon who does the install and how they do it. If a clown ever told me that I wouldn't like it once he was done, would never get started. Why you let him do it is beyond me. I have had the service for more than a year, my contract is up, and I still LOVE the product. To add such a foolish statement as you did with the DO NOT.....only further proves that either you had no clue what you were doing OR you are a plant from Hughes....

Re: WILDBLUE Ripoff

sorry, hdman, but your love of the service offers no consolation to jflory and his/her loss of hard-earned dollars subscribing to wb service.

jflory doesn't need a stranger to act as defender but your retort ruffled my neck hair. some of us poor joes simply expect the service to work and are willing to pay something for the promise of better-than-dialup performance. i don't believe wb will allow diy'ers to perform an install, duh, most of us have neither the equipment nor technical know-how to pull it off. this being said, ease up on jflory for allowing a 'qualified' pro to do the job, commentary notwithstanding.

given your location in WI, and your dependence on the over-subscribed and problem-laden beam 27, you are either spending virtually no time surfing the net or you are a paid wb evangelist.

Re: WILDBLUE Ripoff

Wow...did my moron meter peg on valpo's response. Hey, just an FYI....if you LOOK AT A F'NG MAP you would see I am on Beam 17...not 27. I have 3 PC's all networked, 2 kids, and a wife all using the service. I am also NOT afraid to subscribe here to post factual data. The response he was given by his installer was foolish and to let them in after the fact was even more foolish. To say you just "want the service to work" without understanding that the install is 95% of the reliability equation is just another way of saying "I want to stay on dial up". Dial is not rocket science, sat internet access is, and you CAN'T go into it blind and stupid when it comes to the installer, I'm sorry.

I wasn't going to respond because your post was OK, right up to the point where you went personal, then off into the silly realm with your accusations and wrong assuptions regarding my beam, or 27 for that matter.

My apologies to the OTHER readers out there....but these anon trollers need to be dealt with I guess....

DirecWay/HughesNet not much better

You were asking about a different ISP. I am a DirecWay/Hughes looking at switching to WildBlue or another Broadband.

HughesNet is no different or better than WildBlue overall service. When I first got the DirecWay over 2 years, it cost me more than it should. I had to cut several good trees down and payed the install $110 for the pole to get the satellite in. Several times I have have the a tech come out and over several months final get the main problem fixed. Everytime it rained I last Internet Access completely, main reason was water got into the horn. Once the finally sealed the horn correctly, sorry I am electrical engineer when I examine the satellite saw several major flaws, did not have as much problem.
If it was for the $300 termination fee I would have canceled it. Now I have upgraded to the new improve version and so far they have a five out 10 stars. I now need to move, and I need to move my satellite from my Dad's house to my house. The installer wants $450 and possible more when the get to site for moving the satellite. My goodness, I got riped off the first time I got it install, now they want to ripe me off again. I had more trouble with the installers than I had with tech support and billing office. I believe that all HughesNet/Direcway installers are bunch of thieves.
If I have a new satellite put in it would only be $550 plus what ever ripe off the installer will throw in, even though installation is advertised as free no matter what even in the fine print. or I could go with WildBlue which will be about $400 but not sure who the installers are. Or I may check on Verizon Broadband on my mobile phone which would only be about $100 if there is service in my area. What really come down to is how do we cut the installers out since they are the ultimate problem. I believe they are taken advantage of their customers, even though several times I have look at other broadband and they state I have broadband in my area by my zip code but when they ask for my full address it not available, only satellite broadband. No DSL, no Cable Broadband. So no competition and if you really want broadband you will have to put up with their garbage. Of course, I keep forgetting that the satellite installers are not engineers.
