| I wouldn't worry. . . About the split between your modem and TV. As long as signal strength is within spec, it shouldn't affect your video or data performance. The tech would know, since he has the equipment to measure signals.
The fact that your reception with the old setup was horrible may have been caused by a couple of things. The signal coming to the house may not have been very strong, the cables were just in bad shape, multiple unnecessary splits, or a combination of some or all of the above.
Ultimately, it IS usually best to have all of your cables split at ONE single location, but techs also have to balance that with cosmetics. If there is more than enough signal to share a single outlet between 2 devices, then there is no use in drilling more holes in your house.
Also, there are systems out there that discourage techs from installing more than one outlet per room unless absolutely necessary.
As far as the billing mistakes go, I am sorry to hear about that. That's a tough mistake. I sympathize. I've gone through the tough times myself.
All in all, if anything goes wrong, it will be up to Comcast to resolve it, since you had a pro install. I am sure you'll be happy with it though.

| Update this. Once you find out for sure, post the results of what they find. That way, if it was the split, I can retract my original comment about not worrying about the split. (Shoulda just kept quiet )
(As I waved him off, he said he had another six installs to do after me. Wow, huh? That's dedications for ya. Great man.)
I've been there before. Bubba seems like a good and hard-working guy!

| Re: Update this. hook the line directly to your computer and bypass the split and see if the pic gets better. the tech should have used a dc coupler to split signal with the tap leg to the modem. this type of splitter does not take much signal away from the out leg of the splitter. The problem could be with the tuner card on the computer of connection there as you didn't say if it work good before. modem specs should be about 0dBmv of signal into the modem and transmit level of 45dBmv out. since it is a 5120, the modems ip should be 192.168.100.1 and you can also look at the log to see when it went out and why. Good luck. if you have CDV also, the easiest way to find out the modem ip gui is to disco the cable and release/renew the ip from your computer. the gateway ip is the modems ip. | |

| What do you expect? First of all you are in an area that comcast just inherited from another company (wont name names). No offense but the techs that are there are not comcast trained techs. most of them can barely spell their names let alone do anything technical. I guess if you where really wanting smart techs you wouldnt be living in Houma Louisiana. | |

I guess if you where really wanting smart techs you wouldnt be living in Houma Louisiana. Yes, I've lived here all my life and haven't any plans to move for a few more years yet. I also know about the techs, as you've seen in my review, one was a contractor, part time, who screwed things up even more than they already were. It took another tech to come back and clean up. He was a Comcast guy.
As for living here, If I had the chance and the resources, I'd live in VA. Right in the middle of a just deployed FiOS area.
I'm hoping that Verizon will come in and buy out AT&T so I can get FiOS here without moving from a home I'm comfortable in.
Until then, I'm stuck with Comcast, but will not stop until I get satisfaction.
The Comcast office knows my family well.

| Re: What do you expect? Don't give up.. As a Comcast tech I know that it is possible to give the customer great service. Get a supervisor involved.. If that doest work call 800comcast and ask for the customer complaint number in Philly. Comcast has over 55 million customers most of them extremely satisfied. Trust me everyone is jumping on the FIOS bandwagon but what people dont realize is that to get the fiber from the curb to the house it will cost you between 800-3000 dollars out of the customers pocket depending on the distance. Anyway, comcast is going to double its spend sometime this year with no price increase. | |

| Comcast Have you checked downstream snr and snr via cmts? Also your upstream power all depends on what tap value your coming off of. If your SNR via CMTS is below 25 your have ingress in your line somewhere and since you have all new lines then it's going to be in the hard line. If the tech is doing his job right then he should be pulling up his print up to find out what your levels should be at. I would really hound them about swapping your modem. My personal preference is either an ambit on scientific atlanta. Toshibas tend to bring your upstream power up. If you can find your tap then look at the number on it and add 20 to it with another 4 because of the splitter. Thats what your upstream power should be give or take three. | |

Thanks for the suggestion.
